I am going to Singapore on Business for a year. I have never owned a Laptop before and am pretty clueless on which ones are good deals.

It will need to be a full desktop replacement. Working in excel, Visio, outlook, gaming, ventrilo, photo editing etc. So the specs will need to be decent.

I was told to get a laptop IN Singapore and save some cash, however I really need to swap my data from the old computers over to the new one and make sure I don't lose any data. I would feel much better swapping everything over and getting it all right prior to leaving the country.

So unless the cost difference is huge between the US and Singapore I will be buying one here in the states.

Any ideas or suggestions? Anyone in Singapore who could tell me the price differences?

I think all the above suggestions are good. I would add if you look at the Sager's consider XoticPC. Asus offers world Wide 2 year warranty service. Best Buy I am not sure if those Asus do I think not but bet you could maybe set up if important to you.

If gaming needs are not that high ThinkPad's are very well built only draw back would be GPU?

Main Question is will this always be sitting on a desk and whats your budget. If you are looking to game, Sager machines you can't go wrong.
