Since my LCD pixels only display 8bit colours,

It is useless to keep my X1900XTX display settings at 32 bits rather than 16 bits? Would there be a FPS advantage to going 16 bits in, say, Oblivion?

Just a weird idea that popped up.:D

8 bits means 8 bits per red/green/blue channel, which is 24-bit color. 32-bit color is 24-bit color with 8 bits of padding to optimize processing on 32-bit systems, so you want 32-bit color for the best results.

just try it.. i thing you'll be back at 32bit fast :p

16 bits = 5 bits for red and blue, 6 bits for green.. 32x32x64 = 65.5k colours. 32bit colour will still enough to push data for 10bit colour panels in the future for 1 billion colours.

Usually when graphic cards talk about 32 bit they mean 24 bits colour (8 each red green blue, same as the 8 bit/pixel lcd monitors) and the other 8 bits is alpha channel, transparency.
