I have a wedge shaped crawlspace in my garage, just large enough to comfortably seat myself in bucket seat. I'd like to convert it into a mechwarrior (etc) pod, without spending very much money.

The diagram below shows my intended setup, but I can use some advice.

The chair I already have.. it's a $10 Craigslist special, already bolted to some wooden planks.
The monitor will be a 19" Rosewill, connected to a (sideways) monitor arm. I may need to make a pulley system with some counter balances to support the weight.

The lap desk is the part I haven't fully worked out yet.
The blue square indicates the crawl space entry, so any table suspended over this area can only be anchored to a single wall.

This is pricey, but it might work.

alternatively, I could just have a little table in there that I push out of the way, and then maneuver back into my lap as needed.

What I'd *like* is a little adjustment possible out of the table, so guests can use it comfortably.. a little closer, further, and different angles (within a small tolerance).

I'd like to hear your ideas about how I can improve this setup.

Secondary plans include:
a number of iphone 3gs attached to the side of the monitor, to provide additional touch inputs for the PC. I'm intrigued by the Makey Makey kit, as a way to add simple keyboard inputs to the pod.
