hey all

I decided i wanted to change from my FT02 to a small case again, i saw the Prodigy and instantly said to myself.. I WANT THAT!

I have called this "Simples" simply because i have decided that i will NOT be modding the case if i can absolutely help it, I may cut some grills out for better airflow but that will be the extent of modding.

I faced a problem though... Its M-ITX! So here is a list of parts i will be using for this build:

Hardware:
Intel i7 2600k
Ballistix 16GB 1600 CL9 Ram
Asus HD7970 DirectCUII
Asus P8Z77-I Deluxe Motherboard
2x Samsung 1TB F3
1x Adata 120GB SSD S511


Now then.. being me i cant stand noise, thus i will be Water cooling it!

D5 with Restop attachment @ setting 3 (pure silence)

Anyone who is thinking of building Water cooling into this case please take note of the following warning:
The front cant accept a 230mm fan, So you may think it will accept a 200mm rad.. It can but you will loose the ability to keep the power switch and usb pcb on the side panel.
That is why i am using a 120mm in the back and a 240mm in the top.

Oh and also, a 140mm rad would fit fine at the back, i simply couldn't find one that was thin enough.

I jumped straight into it and mounted the rads with fans Pulling air from case to outside

rear fan had to be mounted on the outside, but this is not an issue as you cant see it.

You will notice i have put the DvD drive cage back in... There is a reason for this as i will say in a mo. Look new mobo!

The cage is put back so that i can fit my Scythe fan controller, I like haveing the option for the fans to be off until absolutely required, this way when im working on some word document my pc is as slient as.. well silence...

PSU fitting time... Now I have a 1KW XFX Pro psu.. Its far to long for this case.

Because this PSU costs around £180 and its the only one i can find that has the ability to turn its PSU fan OFF = Silent i have to find a way:

Now that's as far as i have got. You may notice the lack of a very long and tall 7970.. That is because the Dual Link DVI port went faulty and i had to send it back to OCUK for replacement.

The reason i rushed this is because i have important uni work to do, my i7 2600k has an iGPU so i am using that for now.

if you wish to know anything about the case, let me know.

Tasks for when GPU is back:

Fit Block on GPU
Plumb it in.
Remove Steel grill from case for 230mm fan and rear 120mm fan. (air flow suffers greatly due to these things)

I know mate, But i noticed that everyone else did it this way and i assumed it was a rule or something
 
Things i will be doing to the case after much thinking.

I Hate it when case designers think of using mesh, Its horrid and it blocks airflow to an extreme extent. Alas i know why they use it, its there to "stop" dust.

This case has a fine mesh AND a dust filter built into all the mesh panels. This actually decreases a fans airflow by 75%!
I used an air speed measuring device and that is what i found...

And my temps suffer...
With mesh panels on: 62-60-65-66
With them off: 53-55-57-55

that's not a small number drop there...

So my plan..

Ideas for front:
1. Cut stock plate to have a 230mm fan hole thats Un restricted, do same to Steel of case
2. Get a Front Plate made from scratch with a CNC cut hole and bay hole.. secure with bolts. <- will cost but its worth it.

Ideas for top (240mm rad exhaust)
1. Remove Honey comb structure from stock plate...
2. Get a brand new plate made with the fan holes open and unrestricted...

What should i do?
 
Personally, I prefer the mesh filters as they keep dust from getting in the system which will decrease the fans ability to cool effectively. It's really either dust or filter - same effect in the long run imo of decrease in fan performance, just would you rather dust the whole system or filters one a month?

I've seen people put the rad on the outside of the case at the top, which doesn't look too bad imho, then you could put a fan grill on top of the rad to clean up the look.
 
Wont be moveing the rad to outside, would increase chance of damage.

I think i will go for new plates made and secure a low restriction air filter over the intake hole
