Right now I have a Abit IC-7 mobo running a 2.5c cpu. (I also have a gig of ram.) Anyway, I was thinking of upgrading to 3.0ghz and adding one more gig of ram. I do a lot of photo editing, so it would a nice lil boost.

Any thoughts?

It's not like you have a lot of options on a S478 board. :p

Your plan seems OK. A bare P4 3GHz/800MHz FSB is $128 shipped on pricewatch if you have a decent cooler already and 2GB of memory should help with large photo editing.

I don't do much more than crop, resize and do minor touch ups (color balance, etc) on pictures from my 7MP camera and 1GB is fine for that.

I hate for this to turn into a mobo thread... but....

my whole thing is, Im not going to spend the money on a 3.0ghz if the board is rated for 3.8 (which I can't remember if it is or not...)

The 2gb would be nice because I do a lot of editing, 10-15 photos at a time, layers, sharpening, etc etc etc.

Im almost thinking if I should wait, and just get a new mobo, for supporting the newer processors

That's what I would do. I've did your upgrade (2.4 to 3.0) back in the day and other than the coolness of saying that I have a 3ghz proc (not such a big deal anymore :D) there really wasn't much noticable difference. Give it a few months, save up a grand and go with an entire new system. Just my .02.

Yea right now, I have 2.5ghz with 1 gig of ram, and 120HDD with a raptor 74 running my OS.

I have a Geforce 5900 vid card and XP running the show.

I might take your advice, wait and just get a new HDD, mobo, processor, and vid card. I think I could get away with spending around 600.

you can. I managed to put together a Pentium D 930, XFX 6800XT Xtreme, 1Gb OCZ Ddr2-667, Abit AW8-Max and a 120GB SATA 3.0ghz + a case and an Xclio 450BL for about 613 (no shipping). Without a hard drive, case, or power supply, that's subtracting about $140, so you'd hit around 560. Not bad =D
