This may be a dumb question but can you run 2 different brands in sli? For instance, have one msi and the other xfx? If so, what kind of problems would you run into?
 
No. People have already had problems with the cards from the same manufacturers having different BIOSes and such. If you flashed one's BIOS to the other it may work but I doubt it. It is much easier and more logical to get two from the same manufacturer.
