I am going to use my old computer parts to build a computer for family, so I was going to give them my case and buy a new case. I have a antec 1240 spoof, non aluminum.

So I started looking for cases and there are so damn many I don't even know where to start. SO I figured most of you probably know "the best case" I have a PSU already so that won't be needed in less I must buy the case with a PSU.

I don' thave planned to do watercooling, but who knows, maybe I should buy a case to take this into account as a future upgrade?

Also I need a case under 125 dollars, so I need the best case in that price range! size is not an issue.

Definitely get aluminum man. It keeps your computer A LOT cooler. My case never even gets hot, in fact it's always a bit cool to the touch. Even by the PSU and it's on 24/7. Check out eBay man. They have killer cases for killer deals!

Sorry buddy, no cooling effects from aluminum ;) It's much lighter and looks nicer, but does absolutely nothing for cooling. A couple well placed fans will do much more for your cooling needs. As to "the best case" just get whatever case fits your personality i guess. Basically, make sure it'll be able to hold everything you need.

There is an abundance of Lian-Li lovers on the forums, as well as Cheiftec/Antec lovers. I've used both, they are both very good cases, and are very functional. I've also had cases that I got for free after a rebate and with some mods and a new paint job, and i've grown to love them.

Five Myths about Cooling that You've Probably Read Online by pHaestus @ ProCooling

Myth #1. Aluminum cases act as giant heatsinks.
"These are my personal preference for a number of reasons, including light weight, durability, and, most important, the fact that an aluminum case acts as a huge heatsink drawing off the heat built up within the case. The difference in internal case temperature between aluminum and comparable steel cases is as much as 4 to 8° Fahrenheit or 2.2 to 4.5° Celsius."

-SystemCooling.com

The entire concept as an aluminum case as a significant source of system cooling originated not in a laboratory or an engineer's plans, but with marketers. Any superiority of an aluminum case in cooling lies with improvements in airflow and increases in the number of fans; not with the function of aluminum cases as some giant heatsink. If you think about it logically, then this is clear. The case is not in physical contact with the hot parts of your system, so for the case to serve as a heatsink then heat would need to be transferred from warm air to the aluminum case and then dissipated. This is NOT efficient, and for it to happen to any appreciable extent then there would need to be very little airflow in the case. In reality, virtually all of the cooling of PC cases occurs due to air movement. Coolermasters and Lian Lis ship with a better stock fan configuration than most other mid towers, so they appear to cool better. The fact that they are aluminum cases is incidental.

PS I perfer Rackmounts
and they are almost always steel :p

sooo COOOL that you can run a plastic heatsink.

A case is such an objective thing, it's not even possible to create a thread asking what is the best. Look online at some different sites, and pick one YOU like the best and one that is designed well.

Don't you see the contradiction in your own statement? IF it kept the components cooler the case itself would be warm to the touch because it would be acting like a heatsink. If you've got good temps and the case is cool, then you've got good airflow, nothing else.

My steel case is pretty cool to the touch. Must actually just be really heavy aluminum.

Aluminum will be cooler, heatwise, but only the case. The components inside will be just as hot as usual.

My personal fav is the Lian Li PC-65B. I have one and it's a very nice case. The only thing better IMO is a Coolermaster or Silverstone. One thing whatever case you get make sure it has a removable motherboard tray that slides out the back of the case. They make changing things out so much nicer and easier.

does on occassion have entertainment value :p

Lian Li PC-75...

Comes with a nice big window...if you're into that type of thing.
Room for all kinds of stuff in there, use your imagination.
It's HUGE!
It's really nice.
It's purdy.
It's a Lian Li. ;)

I'd suggest you just stroll thru a few computer stores. At least one case will be perfect for your needs.

Personally, I choose cases that are quite roomy, as they leave more room for modding them, and I love my rig with 5 optical & 1 tape drive...

i read the thread, i just chose to clarify, because the link posted didnt explain the reason the case was cool, it merely debunked the "aluminum cools better" claim.
