I have 2 sticks of ram currently in my pc (512mb pc3200 and 256mb pc2100) . Would it be better if I'll remove the 256 stick? also which is better? a single 1GB pc3200 stick? or 2 512mb pc3200(not dual channel)? :)

what kind of CPU do you have? most likely that 256MB chip is slowing the 512MB one down!

performancewise, 1x1024 or 2 similar (even though not in dual channel) 512 should be +- the same

it really depends on the programs you use, and as setekh said, your computer. though i'm gonna say something different:
in many things, the 512+256 will be faster due to the extra space. the programs that don't use up all the ram, just the 512mb will be faster.

for the 1x1gb vs 2x512mb, they're about the same in single channel, but i would get 2x512mb just in case you plan to upgrade to a dual channel system that uses the same type of memory ;)
(plus, 2x512mb will be a weeee smidge faster in single channel, due to extra bank interleaving)
