I have some ramsinks that cover 2 "dims" on video cards. but the card I'm trying to apply it to has little what look like leds (but I know theyre not leds, I just dont know what to call them) that stick out at the same or just a tiny bit above the ram height. are they trouble causing if metal touches them or will they be ok?

eh, too impatient. I went with it anyway like an idiot. but it seemed to have worked well.
 
Those are Capacitors and Resistors. If you happen to short them with the metal, it could cause issues, so I'd be careful. I know you already did it, but it would probably be worth making sure that you don't short them- put something non-conductive over them if you are worried about them touching.
