I am having major dhcp issues with my old router and I think its time to throw that pice of junk out the window and replace it with another router. The only reason I use the router is to connect another computer and my gaming console to the internet. Out of these 3 routers which one would you recommend?

Netgear RP614

Linksys BEFSR41

D-Link DI-604

Any other router recommendations would help as well.

Linksys WRT 54g , I've used them time and again and they are pretty rock solid.

Other ones have caused me too much headache.

agreed, the wrt54g is pretty much the BEFSR41 with the wireless added. These days it doesnt cost all that much more than the befsr41 and you will have the wireless capability if you should need it in the future.

Yes! QFT. I use a WRT54G, and it is great. Get one! :p

Of the Linksys BEF series...I prefer the befsX41 over the befsR41. (note the "X" instead of the "R"). More horsepower under the hood. The only issue recently with these routers was firmware, recently it was a bit buggy at first, the old 1.45.7 is rock solid, the newer 1.52.3 and 1.52.6 is pretty good...the 1.50 versions was horrible, 1.51...eh.

If you're looking to get wireless, look towards Pre-N/MIMO...they really are mile and miles above old G and B as far as performance, reliability, and drilling that signal way down to the other end of the house or office. Once you use a few MIMO networks...there's no turning back. Linksys with SRX, or Belkin Pre-N, are two very good Pre-N/MIMO routers I've had excellent luck with. And I used to hate Belkin routers before..but they're gotten good in the past year or so, matter of fact their G router uses the same chipset as the Linksys G routers...and you can even load Linksys firmware on them and they'll run.

I'm not fond of Netgear much anymore. DLink is OK. But for home grade brands....I do prefer Linksys/Cisco. If you feel like a bulletproof high performance router..take a look at Linksys/Cisco RV0 series. AWESOME! Yes, more expensive SOHO grade...but AWESOME. Rock solid, VERY fast (533MHz CPU/32 megs of RAM in the 082 and 016 models) and very rich in features.

i was looking at the linksys srx routers.. I have a belkin now (older model that they dont make anymore :( ) and i want to throw this thing out the window.. DHCP errors every which way.

Steer clear of the WRT54GX (The SRX one).

I bought it a couple months ago - nothing but problems with it (wireless side at least). Their customer support and firmware is absolute crap. Constant disconnects, slow speeds, varying signal strength, etc.

I actually just bought 2 100ft. ethernet cables yesterday and ran them through the house just so I don't have to deal with wireless again.

I am also a big fan of the WRT54G router too. Great options, easy user interface.

One of the best home routers I have ever used.

on the belkin pre-n spec sheets they have all these 600% 800% stuff. Is that router really that much better than lets say the d-link DI-634M or the the linksys WRT54GX2.

Also the WRT54GX2 is that pre-n or not?

I love them...I've deployed over a dozen of them, and they're rock solid, and the distance is AMAZING with Pre-N/MIMO

I've deployed both the Belkin Pre-N, and the Linksys SRX...they're both equal in performance I'd say. I will say however, that I think the Belkin firmware is bit more feature rich, the Linksys is still rather bland in features on their SRX. Example..the Belkin, you can flip over the WAP/Repeater mode..if you wish to deploy several to spread out your WLAN. And their DHCP supports reservations via MAC.

Performance wise though, they are both utilizing the same Airgo True-MIMO chipset.

DON'T get the WRT54GX2, it's complete trash, read my post from earlier.
