Simple Audio Editing App?

My friend is looking for a program to edit some of his mp3's. He mostly wants to take parts of the song out, and possibly add some other song's in.

Can anyone recommend a simple and free/inexpensive program to do this?
 
Adobe Audition can be used by monkeys so...
Dunno about price though, I only have access at work.
 
I think I'll tell him about free and well recommended Audacity over a $350 copy of Adobe Audition.
