LinuxInsider brings us the story that EA will be releasing the original Sim City for the OLPC project's XO laptop. For those of us who cut our gaming teeth on those classic Maxis games, it's great news that another generation of people in other countries will be able to enjoy them for free.

Including "SimCity" on the XO laptop will help young users become familiar with their new computer while at the same time giving them a creative outlet that can help them develop their decision-making skills, according to EA.

"'SimCity' is entertainment that's unintentionally educational. Players learn to use limited resources to build and customize their cities. There are choices and consequences, but in the end, it's a creativity tool that's only limited by the player's imagination," said Steve Seabolt, vice president of global brand development for the Sims label.

I think this is excellent. While it may be old, the original SimCity is a very useful tool to teach resource management. It's simple, and fun!

P.S. Congrats on the promotion :p

such a nice thing for EA to do, but I think they should have released a little bit newer of a simcity game, like simcity 2000 or 3000. was simcity 1 even made when EA was in control?
