I thought the new ones had black tops right??

I just ordered this drive from zipzoomfly, and it just came..and was expecting a black top drive when I opened the anti static bag, but the top of it right next to me is silver color!

I dont have my SATA cable from UPS yet, but will this be a ball baring drive and be LOUD???

Actually, I just put it in temporarily using my main OS HDD's SATA data cable to image data off my old 80GB IDE, and it isnt a loud ball barring type at all, so thats good! The only thing that concerns me is that it vibrates alot when seeking and dosent really make a seek sound at all (I've only heard the real seek noise when I first cold boot - guess it is its calibration), so thats weird..it just may be that it is writing, and not seeking alot when I am imaging so that just cause extra vibration and not seek noise. Hmm..may be because i have 3 HDDs installed now?

I'm just curious to why WD switched back to silver when black was so nice! Anyways, if anyone has any news, please post. Off to wait for my other parts!

Noted.

Used to be, that silver tops denoted ball bearing motors, while black denoted FDB. Obviously, the color of the top of the drive has nothing to do with what's inside...they just made the switches on the motor and top color at the same time.

Just because they've gone back to silver tops doesn't mean they have to go back to ball bearing motors ;)
 
Thanks, Must be a new thing with WD these days. As long as it performs, and lasts..I could care less, you know?
