Hi, my new system came today, and when i had put it all togheter to switch the power on -> *poof*, and the safe in the house went out, and i can recall hearing a noise form the psu.

Now it seems that the PSU is completely dead, dont have any tools to measure it exept trying to start it with the green and black pins. And looking at the led at the back of the psu.

So i tought Silverstone had quality products, is this rare or anyone else have had simular experience?

Are you sure you didn't have a short somewhere in your build.

Although the short circuit protection should have prevented any kind of "poof."

yeah im pretty sure, as it was my old computer i tested it on first, wich had been working with my old psu later that day, i only switched it out to try it out.

also im pretty sure it was only the psu that got damaged, but im no expert with psu's so. however i have built alot of computers before and never had this kind of problem before.

and also what kind of "user" problems could have caused this, so i can tell that if i had anything to do with this or it was mainly the psu.

Old PSU was Antec Neopower 480W that i bought 2 years ago, and i had small problems with it from day 1, and it refused to start after i left the computer off for a couple of hours to clean the computer room (moved all electric components to another room while doing this, and then went to work after).

The problem with the Antec Neopower 480W was that it would sometimes require several pushes to the start button for a while for it to power up, and once the computer was up and running it would sometimes be hard to turn it off. (this lead to trying to use the new psu to really confirm that the old one was the cause of the startup-problem).

Checked if any short from the motherboard tray, or any cables and i cant find any place where that could have happened. Motherboard, with ram (tested both modules) and cpu outside the case on antistatic bag wont boot with old PSU.

Abit Fatal1ty AN8 SLI motherboard (i have read on some forums that nf4 boards are problematic compined with antec especially).
Board is giveing "F.3. Power off sequence timeout" error code on the led.

Also the Antec Neopower 480W does start up when i connect the green/black cables.

Also my other computers run fine on the same power outlet (or what the hole in the wall is called in english ;) ).

the "short circuit protection" is it the glass tube inside the psu?

That glass tube inside the psu is some kind of "safe" right? I think its that part that i need to replace in order to get it to work. Anyone know what the glass tubes with metal in the ends are called? :)

No. That's a fuse that protects things if something goes horribly wrong on the AC side of the power supply.

Short circuit protection is done via an IC. The power supply just trips off and to turn the PSU back on, all one has to do is correct the fault and turn the power supply back on.

allright, not the Short circuit protection that kicked in then, cause have tried getting power from it for 1.5 days now. sending it back to get a new one now.
