SilverStone SG07 - New Mini-itx case

that was a great shot.

U can se some sg05/06 in the back there for comparison. But it makes me think, why would they show sg05/06 uneless theres something new about them? like say.. a 450W psu?

Don't look into it. They show all their cases.

What I don't get is why somebody doesn't just get a ruler and measure the damn thing to put us all out of our misery :p

EDIT: Looks like somebody did - I give you the LegitReviews... review.

If you can't be bothered to follow the link, the SG07 measures 222mm x 190mm x 350mm or 8.7" x 7.5" x 13.8" (W x H x D).

Sticking that in sizeasy.com, the difference isn't all that massive height/width wise (although it's obviously much longer):

What do you guys think?

SG07 should have an opening below to be able to fit mosfet heatsinks :D

Any idea as to when this will be out and how much? I might sell my SG06 that I'm building and get this. I mean I need to get 450w for my build and if it is about same price as SG07, I would rather sell my SG06 and not buy 450w PSU and get SG07 and use my current HX620 which won't cost that much to make that move.

They make slim BD drives.
Even still, for something with 15% more volume than a Shuttle (which can accommodate a full size 5.25" and two 3.5" drives), it feels like you should be able to fit more than a single 3.5" and slim 5.25" drive in this thing.

But with small knowledge that I have with Shuttle, they don't make any that fits ATX PSU which takes up most of space where full 5.25 should be.

It's clear they are aiming for folks who want to game, and not so much htpc.

...if you need more than 2TB, then you should probably get a RAID setup and attach it through a Gig-E switch.

Its not about wanting more storage capacity, its about being able to setup a decent RAID config, with 2 x 3.5" drives, all within one case, thus not requiring a seperate box plus switch plus cables.
Also what if you want your OS on a large RAID set using 3.5" drives etc..
Either way i can see how it would have been possible for silverstone to have accomodated 2x 3.5" drives, but for some reason they decided against it.
I hope they reconsider this for future revisions.

I think they're just trying to target the largest use case scenarios, and I suspect most people will be putting in one 2.5 or 3.5 drive, not multiple.

It's not about RAID- these boxes are meant to be small and portable performance machines, essentially lanboxes. Remember that RAID offers almost no advantage for that usage scenario- it increases linear transfer rate, while at best keeping the same awful access times (compared to SSD's), and prolonging the boot process with it's extra BIOS. Again, no need.

For these boxes, I could easily see one 2TB WD Green/Samsung F3EG drive for quiet mass storage (and they ARE fast enough), and either an SSD or WD Raptor for the OS/Applications/Main games drive.

If you need redundancy, well, you need a bigger case. Or a USB drive to back stuff up to.

I see these as good mini-ITX cases period.
I don't see these cases as being strictly designed for portable gaming machines. you think they would have put a built in handle on them if they were strictly designed for that purpose.

Many mini-ITX boards have RAID capabilities, and it would be nice to make use of the RAID capabilities using 3.5" drives within a mini-ITX box.

RAID does offer large advantages in performance for many business/professional/scientific applications. It also offers the ability to have redundancy which is also required is such environments.

Not everyone is building mini-ITX systems for playing games and carrying around to lan parties. Some people like me, build these systems to provide people with a small form factor (non-Laptop) alternative to a mid tower ATX PC. This is important in many business/professional/scientific environments, where space can be a premium (example a work bench in a laboratory).

Also not all mini-ITX boards are made for playing games or to be used as a media player.
one good example is the Executive intel DQ45EK.
So a good mini-ITX case manufacturer should consider the different types of boards and different environments out there, in order to increase their market and thus increase sales. Overal i think these are the best mini-ITX cases so far, hopefully they get even better over time.

I am referring strictly to the Silverstone SG-05/06/07 cases here. Again, if you need to RAID, you need more than RAID-0- and if you need to do business/professional/scientific stuff that absolutely needs RAID-1, then you need a different solution anyway. It doesn't take much to step up to one of hundreds of mATX cases that are only slightly larger (compared to full-ATX).

Slightly larger than the SG05/SG06? Hardly. If you have an SG05/06 (and I have both) you can easily see how much smaller they are. It is unreal.

I'm pretty sure PSU is standard ATX for SG07 but anyone can confirm this for sure? If so, I think I'm going to sell my SG06(Brand freaking new -cut for GTX260. There I go again switching case without even using it :() and wait for SG07.

I wonder how good it is and how quiet. I guess it won't be quieter than my HX620. Guess only time will tell.

Ah, I've completely missed this one so far. Seems like a nice improvement for the most part over SG05/06, but what the heck were they thinking with the front panel? I loved the SG06 look, and even SG05 was nice. But this one's just lame. Also for me personally if I was buying it (which I can't, having invested in my current SG03 case), I'd wish it could be bought without a PSU. 600W is way overkill, plus it's probably not a silent model anyway.

But the specs are indeed nice. Standard ATX, good selection of CPU coolers that fit... good ways to keep it reasonably silent. And I only use one HD at the moment, so even that wouldn't really be a hinderance. Might be just what I'd be looking for in a mini-ITX gaming case. Aside from the front panel, that is :p

They better keep making SG05, and SG06 cases.
I hope this SG07 is not a replacement but just another offering.

Hopefully there will be an SKU without PSU so we can chose our own.

If it's a quality 600w psu it's a decent price, still a bit high, 150-160 would be more like it.

I received a response from Silverstone sales stating the ETA is still late May. I hope they can deliver!

Hi, I have been waiting the SG-07 for a very long time. Ive been holding
off on buying my parts because of this case. Can I please get a release
date and price estimate? I originally heard is was going to be around
$180-200 but now Im hearing people say its going to be $300. Thanks.

From Silverstone.

"Hi,

The case got a little delay but it will make it by the end of July and the
price will be under $200

Thank you"
