Hi, I'm new to SFF.
Been browsing the forums the last month or so and just wanted to add a small info piece.

I recieved confirmation last night from Silverstonetek that the new SFF case the
SG02 will be shipping this September, just a few more weeks to wait.

It's a DEFINATE CONFIRMATION this September .

Ok and now two uncomfirmed rumors about the SG02.

It will have 120mm fans so it will be a little bit higher than the SG01 and SG01e versions.
The front panel/bezel will be closed/hidden much like the design of the Silverstone Lascala series.
You can see in these 2 photos what I mean.
Just look at the far right piece of this HTPC and you can see the said rumored design.

Ok, hopefully some more info very soon.

EDIT : The 2 pictures above are *NOT* the SG02 but are just illustrative of the rumored style and features of the DOOR MECHANISM.

yeah, it was either august or september...Silverstone asked me not to mention any of their plans but SG02 is just the beginning ;)

If thats what it looks like, than shame on silverstone. That looks like a nasty desktop-style case from like 1996.

Well, I'm forced to wait as I still don't like any of the mATX boards for Conroe.

Just the beginning is very painful, as most of us want to set up a new Core 2 SFF NOW !!!

for a moment i thought you said thats what the sg02 will be but you were just referring to their cog wheel style drive cover lol.

I kinda want to see this thing. My microfly will hold me over for now though.

This has the potential to be the best SFF case in terms of looks and features.

Great news! Now i can ease off on my frustation of waiting for the damn SFF mATX boards for the Conroe. Man, September is gonna be very interesting month for me. SG02, DX cards (maybe?) and cheaper/reduce 2407 price. :D

... I really don't get people's taste in cases sometimes. If the SG02 is so sexy... shouldn't computer companies be selling case designs from the early ninties? hahaha

Ask Steeve to devulge the goods.
Silverstone has other SFF case ideas before the year is out..
shame really as we need them now.

Just to reiterate the pictures are just illustrative.
Cut the first 2/3's off the photos from left to right...
and you're left with the SG02

I don't mind if it's plain,
better cooling with 120mm fans and a good mATX and I'm happy.

I just got a letter from Silverstone and it seems some of the information is a little inaccurate. My contact at Silverstone told me that it will be very similiar to the SG01 but made to be cheaper as in more cost effective.

To quote my Silverstone rep..

We are developing an SG02, which will be nearly identical to the SG01 but will cost less...we may see this one out in 2 months.
(dated 6/25/05 by the way).

Silverstone allowed me to share this information since the topic was brought up :) I hope to get more information soon.

Good to see you guys are getting pumped about the case though

I'm really worrying on the "cheaper" part. I hope they only meant the price and not the quality of the case. Anyways, if its gonna look very similar to the SG01 with 120mm fans, i would say how bad can it be right?

I don't know if it will have 120mm fans...but stay tuned for details.

by cheaper they just meant more cost efficient. I doubt they will remove the beauty of the case

if they make it "cheaper" price wise, there's got to be a decrease in quality. maybe more plastic instead of aluminum to cut the costs down. but I dont think the price of an sg01 is bad as it is.

Maybe they will make the chassis out of steel, and leave the front as is. It wont need 120's IMO.

Well, they can bring down the price at the Lian Li V300 level with the same quality. Lian Li can do it why can't Silverstone.

Maybe being able to fit a newer video card costs the extra 30 :p

seriously though, the bezel is probably the cost driver on the SG01...I'd rather not see that thing go down in quality but who knows...we could be surprised.

It is almost like their is a next generation of cases coming out over the next 6 months or so...

Sounds just like what is rumored.

Same SG01 form factor, change it steel and throw the "Lascala" style
front bezel in aluminum on the front.

There has to be something better than this if true.

because they're two completely different companies with different assets and production capabilities.

Considering I have spoken with Silverstone personally and I have a relationship with them via sffclub, I'd say my statements are not rumors :)

I understand what you're saying Steeeve, and I know you have a closer connection than most. I was referring to the actual rumors as mentioned in my first post and on other peoples threads.

We've heard nothing from you Steeeve with this regard other than to expect something cheaper and that there are many more things to come before the year is out.
Correct me if wrong. :D

And actually that grates on me, and anyone else who is just on the very edge of making a decision. A good conroe mATX is also holding me back.
No one wants to buy the SG01 and the very next week a whole announced line up of far better solutions from Silvertek.

How about hinting at something more ?

you know I can't ;) Part of the relationship with these companies is me not disclosing things until they say I can. I guess in return I get access to information and the ability to test new products and see where things are heading. In some cases I have to sign NDAs with companies. Trust me when I say new things are coming for SFF....should be a fun year :)

I hope you're refering to this year Steeeeve. Its kinda quiet lately in the SFF community; no new SFF cases and boards (Conroe), so yeah this news is really encouraging. Thanks man. Now maybe a little hint? Does it come in black and able to fit a 9500 Zalman?
:D

are u "saying" that there will be more than one new SFF case from silverstone, if so nice.

Nice to hear new things are waiting to happen :) But I've waited long enough and as soon as the Asus P5B-VM is available I'm going to get it and order the best mATX box at that time (SG-01E for now). If anything nicer/better pops up later, well...I'll just have to move my stuff to a new case :)

anyone know if the SG02 will have a dedicated 3.5" bay? (thus 2x 5.25" and 1x 3.5")

that was the only thing missing from the SG01...the cost for the SG01 was not a big deal since it is quite good in quality.

Probably not. Plus a lot of people such as myself find 3.5" bays almost worthless now.

There are lots of 3.5" devices other than floppy that are useful for media center type builds. Check out PCalchemy.com

I just checked the silverstone website. They have released a new matx case called the ML01. It's more of a desktop PC style case though it has 'feet' that you can connect to it so you can stand it up. Kinda like the PS2.

I hope this isn't instead of the SG02. I was sorta hanging out for a new version of the SG01.

its either going to be the Silverston SG02 or NSK3300 for my next mATX build.

I'm really curious to see what Silverstone has planned.

and yes...NO 3.5" please. It just doesn't make sense on an SFF case anymore.

I actuallly can't wait until ALL chipsets do away with IDE and floppy connections. Get rid of the archaic standards once and for all.

hehe steeevee...when i read your post the first time..I rushed over to the silverstone site, hoping you had been privy to some early launch news. :D

Most people IDE for DVD burners. I am sure as hell not paying $100 for an SATA burner from plextor :p

I agree. They should also get rid of onboard video, and add more USB ports or a wireless network feature.

given that the SG01 doesn't have a built in card reader, and the rumour of stealthed drive bays for the SG02, i for one would be happy to see the lower 5 1/2 driver converted into a standard 3 1/5.

benefits:
stealthed driver for card reader
room for a third HD
room for a 92mm HD fan
