Silverstone PS doesn't work with a surge protector??

I read a review about the Silverstone ST1000, found here:

I am trying to run a single 8800GT and when windows boots it says that there is insufficient power for the video card. After I got a second back from Newegg that had the same problems I decided to research further and found that Silverstone says the ST1000 will not work with any surge protector, and they recommended a whole house surge protector. This can't be right can it?
 
I read it from a customer comment on Newegg's website. He had talked to Silverstone's tech support and that is what they told him. I tried to contact Silverstone's tech support but apparently the guy who does that is at CES until tomorrow. I will get in touch with him tomorrow and let you know.

**NOTE I also tried an 800W BFG from Best Buy with the exact same setup plugged into the exact same surge protector and it worked like a charm.
 
Well, I have used that exact power supply with surge protectors (MOV and series), PDU's, Line Conditioners, and UPS's successfully so I would be interested in hearing back.
 
Ok Scratch the whole UPS surge thing because it didnt work correctly when I plugged it directly into the wall. I just got off the phone with Silverstone and the guy said that there is a driver compatibility issue with the 8800GT and the ST1000. He said it is a well know issue and they are working with Nvidia to get it resolved. Not quite sure what to do now...
 
Never heard of a driver incompatibility between a power supply and video card before? :confused:

I have the st1000, with an 8800gt, on a ups.

I DID have to plug in the 4-pin power cord for the 'sli' power, along with the 6-pin vid card power, otherwise it gave very bad fps.
With the regular 4-pin molex to mobo, and the 6-pin pci-e, it works fine though.

Also, my ups is pure-sinewave, on a dedicated 20 amp circuit.

I believe the Enermax galaxy 1000w will only work with pure-sine also.

If you have the 4-pin mobo molex connecter, try plugging that in and see how it goes.
 
I do have all of the power connectors plugged into the mobo and graphics card. I was reading the specs on the ST1000 and I am not quite sure what "Active PFC" is and how it relates to UPS's. I did notice however the 800W BFG powersupply from Best Buy that worked in my pc does not have PFC. I browsed Newegg and noticed that most bigger >900W powersupplies have Active PFC. I've tried this ST1000 with a variety of surge strip from el cheapo to fancy APC surge. I tried it in my UPS which is an APC 1500VA, and I've tried it directly into the wall.

Thanks for the link. I guess that would explain the UPS not working with the supply, but I'm not sure why it wouldnt work with a normal surge protector or directly from the wall.

Something is wrong the unit. I would just RMA it to SilverStone.
