SilverStone FT03 Micro ATX Chassis

I have to say that I really kinda dig on this SilverStone FT03 Micro ATX case. According to the review, this thing can actually fit a 13.7" video card, full size PSU and even some of the larger CPU coolers as well. The design and cable routing makes this a good HTPC candidate too.

While styling and trends have certainly changed over the past decade, the general hardware layout inside a case has remained constant: motherboard in the middle, power supply either on the top or bottom, optical drives up front at the top and hard drives in the lower front area. There have been advances in certain departments like hot swap drive and aesthetics (lighting, funky paint jobs, etc) but the basic ATX layout hasn't changed much since the beige box. That's all about to change...

Unfortunately, Silverstone chose to go with a slot-load slim-line optical drive requirement.
That severely limits drive options, especially if you want a BD drive.
I think you could probably mill out the opening for a tray-load drive, but who wants to have to go to that extent to make a $170 case more compatible.

Other than that, it's a nice design.

The slim optical is a killer, esp for an HTPC.

It's nice to see that they're trying out something new. The one thing I've always hated about computer cases was that there's so much possibility in design yet so little variation.

I was going to get an FT03, but I was able to buy back my FT02 and high-end m-ATX P67 motherboards are not available.
