Silver or Black HTPC? What's hottest? A couple of years back when I got all my home theater equipment the trend was Silver. Nowadays the fashion trend seems to lean towards Black, most audio receivers are Black, all Lian Li cases are now Black. I'd like to know what everyone thinks about this, I personally like silver better. I think it shows off aluminum much nicer than black aluminum. But black seems to be the fashion trend. Thoughts?

AV components have been black boxes since the '80s, it's safe to say that they'll still be made in black for the next few years you'll be using this PC. ;)

If you really want silver, just buy one in silver, you'll always be able to find components to match if you search hard enough. Color shouldn't really be the deciding factor when it comes to searching for AV components though...unless you're married. I mean really, who cares if one is silver and the other is black? I'm OCD and even I'm not that bad, though somehow all my gear does happen to match. :D

I have a Silver Antec case and it looks pretty good. As BlazeStorm says Personal Pref.

I've got a silver HTPC case sitting next to a black recevier and it looks fine together. I just ordered a new receiver, and it's silver only becuase they were out of stock on the black and it was toooo good of a deal to pass up... I'm hoping it looks good together, but I'm not worried too much about it.

And come on... we're all lying if we are saying looks don't matter. If that was the case, there would be no need for a special case to make it blend into the home theater experience and we'd have a regular tower sitting near our entertainment centers...

It really is personal preference. I associate silver components with outdated electronics since all "old" electronics are silver. I also don't want to see it shining back at me when I have the room dark, hence I choose black. There are certain room setups that silver could look better in though. I'm more about function than design though. I work with a few metrosexuals who don't buy any electronics unless they are silver or white. heh

i got a silver antec 2480 but i wish i had black. the prob is there are no silver cd roms so i will probably spray paint my cdrom once i have to put the htpc somewhere that it will be visible. silver would be fine if i didnt have one giant black square in the upper left corner of it.

Heh yea that's what I was trying to get at. I think there is definitely a "fashion" trend. Sure, who cares, but I find it quite interesting. A couple of years ago I when I got my HT equipment, everything was pretty much silver, Sony dvd player, Yamaha AV receiver, TiVO, Samsung TV. Recently I visited Best Buy and almost everything was black . I bet in a couple of years the trend will go back to silver :D

I'm not sure what I'll get, probably something that matches my new AV receiver, probably black. Anyway, thanks for the feedback everyone ;)
