I have recently decided that I like quieter better. So have been reading about silenx Fans. Has any one had experience with these fans and do they perform as well as they say? The specs are awesome. I need 2 92mm 1 for case and 1 for cpu. looking at the 14 DBA model. I also need 1 120mm . These fans are over 20 dollars a piece so would like to know that performance is real world. Also is there a more reasonable place to Buy ?
 
get panaflos and run them on a fan controller, im buying me U1A 120mms there extremely loud but panaflos can run at as little as 3v often times, making any speed/noise point you want, and since its a fatter fan you get more air flow then you would with silenx

bottom line, remember its not the fan that makes the noise its the rpm, nothing a manufacturer can do to reduce noise if the noise is the fan blades, panasonic got around it by making the fan bigger

rpm=noise
 
Im sorry you feel that way. You had absolutley nothing to say about my post. Did you read the whole post ? Do you even know what the silenx fan specs are. I dont want panaflos. Im running tonadoes on a fan controller right now they do an extremely good job but for my 2nd computer I want quiet and if the specs are right there isnt anything that moves as much air as quietly.

BackStabber i hope you havn't bought the silenx yet? :eek: Their marketting about "14dB" is horseshit. The quietest fan is a Nexus 120mm. Check out silentpcreview.com - you'll also be able to search and read about Silenx :rolleyes:
 
I havnt baught any thing yet. Because it seems almost to good to be true. Thanks for the info I will check that out. I knew there were some real [H]ard asses out there that can read

well you know how it goes... Anything too good to be true - IS 99% of the time :rolleyes:

the info on that site i stated has incredibly amounts of info on All aspects of hardware noise ;) - their reviews are also thorough and go into all sorts of detail.
 
Geez barely anyone has tried these SilenX's and they're bashing them. I have the 92mm14dB model, and it is definitely really quiet. However I do not recommend using it as a CPU fan if you are overclockingor have a hot CPU. These only make ideal case fans since they do not have rpm monitoring.

Edit: At $20+ dollars apiece SilenX's are quite a ripoff for their cooling potential, so I'd suggest looking elsewhere.
 
I personally have used both the SilenX 120mm "14dB" fan and the 120mm Nexus fan, and the Nexus fan is the better fan of the two, it has a much softer sound and appears quieter to me. To be honest I was dissapointed with the sound coming from my SilenX fan and that is what prompted me to try out a Nexus fan as suggested on silectpcreview, and I now will always buy Nexus fans for my quiet cooling needs.

I use these Nexus 120mm fans in my case and on my Thermaltake Sonic Tower (and on my Thermalright SI-97 when I was using that). They are quite as a bumblebee fart. :D

As for the SiletX fans, haven't used them. If you do use them I would like to hear how they are, or anyone else too.
 
I'm a big fan of Arctic Cooling's 80mm fans (the 3 series, which are exhaust only, are a terrific design) and Aerocool's Turbine 120mm fans (just have to remove the silly nose which twists right off).
 
At 20 + dollars silnx fans are a bit spendy to experiment with. I think Im going to go with the Nexus fans. Thanks for the info
 
i think silenx worth the money, here's my system setup

coolmax fanless 480watt psu,
seagate baracuda V HDD
2x silenx 80mm 14dbi fans

passive cooling on the processor, it's a p3 :p

i hear no noise at all, absolutely none. with the case cover off, air flow is audible but nothing can be catagorized as 'noise'

jus my 2 cents, its meant for those who believe 'silence is golden'
 
SilenX makes really expensive undervolted fans. The marketing tactics that they've persued show you that you shouldn't spend money on them.
 
It's general knowledge in the quiet computing community that Nexus 120mm fan is the quietest. :eek:
 
is there any proof of the general knowledge you were talking about? like a 3rd party comparison of bunch of silent fans.
 
From the two posts above yours, Limp, it looks like opinions are divided. Personally I think they are overpriced, but thats just from what I've read about them.
