Im a total newb to water cooling. Just want a silent setup to fit in my antec 900 case. Need to cool:

Q6600 GO
Asus P5KC mobo
8800 GT 512mb GPU
OCZ 6400 2gb

Do i need to cool mobo and RAM?

Should I buy the Zalman fan controller to try and keep fans on low when system ideling to keep silent?

Ive been researching on here and thermochill seems the best rads, but you can only use 3/8" barbs, id rather 1/2" if I can, is there a away around this? How many rads do I need to cool the above?

Im going to get a 18W laing ultra pump as loved on here but can I get the basic one without he Plexi Top and just get a res? Res will look cool so want one.

Any help would be great

Cooling the motherboard is generally only for those planning on overclocking high, or for hot chipsets like 680i. Water cooling RAM is close to pointless, unless you're doing an extreme build.

Fan controllers are very useful, it doesn't necessarily have to be Zalman though.

Thermochill radiators use fittings with G 3/8" threads, the actual OD of the fitting can be 3/8" or 1/2". The problem is finding them. You can order directly from Thermochill in the UK, or use adapters with other fittings.

For cooling the processor and video card in one loop, a Thermochill PA120.3 would be perfect while being able to use very low speed fans. If the Thermochill is too expensive, then you would want a Swiftech MCR-320 QP, but it won't cool quite as well.

I dont mind system being loud when gaming, just when ideling I want it to be silent.

I would suggest buying directly from Thermochill.com, unless there's a site in the US that has both the radiator and fittings. You'll have to pay for overseas shipping, but it works out to about the same in the end, plus its fast. You can get the fittings you need, and anything else you might want for the Thermochill all in the same place.

Those high speed fans won't run that slow. If you're going for silence, I suggest getting the low speed Yate Loons, or mediums if you're worried that won't be enough. Thermochills are designed for low speed fans in that their fin spacing is larger than normal. Low speed Yates don't become silent for me until 5-7v, so I can only imagine medium and highs are worse, but I've never used them.
 
I live in the UK. Il get the low speed ones then mate. I dont need super cooling as my Q6600 stock speed at min and dont want a huge clock on it, 3.0 Ghz be fine for min

the G3/8" is the thread type... The actual part of the barb that screws into the radiator. It deals with thread spacing... not the diameter of the barb ;)

No, you don't need to. Cooling the motherboard is beneficial when aircooling, as there's generally no airflow around the NB HSF... Just keep your case circulation up ok?

Sure, but I recommend This Fan Controller as it's way more powerful than the Zalman... Meaning, you can splice all your radiator fans together and run them off ONE channel! You only need to move 1 knob to control up to 4 fans.

A single PA120.3 should cool all of that, with room to spare. You could probably go SLI on it too, if you turned down the CPU clock a bit!

If you don't want the one with the top, the pump really isn't all that great. It's the top that makes it really. You could just get (my favorite pump) the MCP655 instead, and a res of your choice. The 18W laings have been known to die quite easily

Im going to get the D-Tek FuZion - Universal CPU block, but what does the accelerator nozzel kit do? Do I need it?

The kit comes with a few different types of nozzles that you can put inside the FuZion, which will vary temperatures and flow rates. You don't need it, but it can help with temperatures a bit. I think its worth it if you're already ordering from somewhere that has it.
 
Laing D5 Vario I think so I can turn right down if needed. Can anyone recoment a res, preferably large and a bay one, needs 1/2" barbs

Yes, the Swiftech MCP655, or the Danger Den D5 will be nice and quiet for you, if you turn them down. At "2" they run around 17-19dba from 1 foot... which is damn quiet.

I don't like bay-reservoirs as I find the hard to fill. They're hard to pull out of your case, and to bleed all the air out of when required. I like the Swiftech Micro-res, or the Dtek Multi-res.
 
I would say an Eheim pump is more silent than the D5 Vario (which I have). Performace much less though. You might want to look at an Aqua Computer Aquastream XT, which should end up being a good pump and has lots of fun toys too like internal temp monitoring and usb connection.

The most important aspect to having a quiet pump setup is the mounting. Make sure you get some of Petra's Gel Stuff to isolate the vibration. The cheap neoprene pads that most pumps come with just don't work all that well at isolating the pump.
 
AT least consider the Reserator in one of its many incarnations... See the media PC in my sig - Pretty darn close tou what you got!...with 2 undervolted silenx's...(Though the controller is a good idea)...my system is cool and quiet.

Of course you wont be doing much overclocking with the reserator...its only real use, IMHO, is a quiet stock system.
 
The D-Tek dB-1 is supposedly a very silent pump, but they're not very powerful. You wouldn't want more than one or two blocks in a loop with one.

It's about as quiet as the D5 on 2/3... I've got one. It's perfect for a single block/radiator.

i got my pentium d930 (3.0GHz) up to 4.13GHz on a reserator xt, on low settings. it is dead silent. probably get a little more out of core 2s, this presler chip can get pretty hot. i got a little more to go increasing the speed though.
