Currently I have a WD Harddrive 80GB, and I hate it to death. Not because of bad performance but because of the noise it makes constantly, not only when seeking but all the time. So I've decided that I want to get a new, bigger one. My budget is $100-$120 and the rig I will put it in will contain the following:
Athlon64 3200
DFI nf4 Ultra-D
X800XL

TIA
 
can you go over your budget by a couple bucks? if so this one for 123.99 at ZZF is nice....

samsung makes the most silent drives, end of discussion. their performance is also near the bottom but speaking in terms of real world results that you will notice, it's not too tangible unless you are doing heavy I/O operations for a living.
 
Right now I am running IDE, will I encounter any difficulties on the DFI if I get a SATA?

Well, if you intend to overclock, only sata ports 3 & 4 are locked. Since you chose the DFI, I assume your overclocking :).
 
I have one of those SATA 7200rpm 8 meg cache hitachi's. Its damn quiet. I cant hear it over my gigabyte "rocket cooler" on the lowest fan speed setting.

So should I use the ones that are locked or use 1 & 2 (never used sata).
 
Use teh locked ports (3 & 4), otherwise your drive(s) will hold back our overclock :eek:
 
And, will I be able to use the IDE & SATAII in harmony if somehow magically the one i have stops making that noise?
 
Does anyone know if the SATAII OEM HDD's at newegg come with the cables? If not does the DFI mobo come with them?
