Can someone recommend for me to some cheaper parts on newegg to make my P4 1.5 Gig, with 512 pc133 ram silent? I'm wanting to get it quite so I can leave on 24/7 for all my programs and music. Thanks for any help you may have.

Maybe something like this, which he says is almost whisper silent except for the HD.

what programs?

what quality music?

are you an audiophile?

do you plan to play any games?

do you want to be able to play more intensive games (HL2, Doom3, FarCry)

do you have an AMD/Intel preference?

do you have a Price Range?

will the computer be in your room at night?

do you have an nVidia/ATi preference?

do you plan to do intensive things like Ph0t0ch0p?

do you want it to be a server?

I think instead of building an extra one, I'll put some use to my old Gateway laying in my closet. Sorry about editing my post Force. What I'm mainly wanting is a cheap silent hard drive, case, some of that insulation padding on the pics I posted, a cheap but could run HL1 gpu without a fan, some fans, things like that. Sorry If I'm making no sense, I just got off work and I'm tired as hell.

edit: All it's really going to be used for is AIM, mIRC, winamp, and some light Half Life 1 gaming if a friend comes over. I'm going to take out this soundcard and speakers on this rig - see sig - and put it on the Intel since for gaming I use headphones.

I would see how load your powersupply fan, case fan, and cpu fan are and replace any that are too loud with Panaflow fans or similar.

Do you know of any silent psu's? The one in there is only 160W so it could use an upgrade.

Sorry, I don't know much about silent powersupplies. Maybe someone else will pop in with some suggestions. You could make your own silent supply by replaceing the fan inside with a high quality, low noise fan.

An alternative to making the computer silent would be to add to the ambient noise - say a fish tank or a fountain.

there are some PSUs (i think Antec makes some) that adjust their fan speed. So, when it's not pulling as much power/giving off as much heat, the fan speed decreases...you might want to consider that.

Didnt antec just launch a FANLESS PSU? or was it enermax? All i remember is that they cost ALOT of money.
