Silencing Hard Drives

I currently have a w/c'd system, and it does give me pretty decent temperatures. It is, however, rather noisy due to the fans and HDD's. I can deal with the fans by 7 or 5-volting them, but I dont really know what to do with the HDD's.

At first i thought there was vibration with my HDD's, but they are just generally loud because of the spinning (high pitched general whine, like something is spinning). They have always done this, so I highly doubt there is something wrong with them.

Anyway, I am in sort of a pickle because I have 3 out of 4 of my 5 1/2 bays in use. In the 4th bay I have one of my HDD's in there (to save room for my eheim 1250 pump, and provide better airflow) and my other is in the racks below.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to silence them? There is the problem of space, unfortunately, so some ideas would be great. Most of the silencers ive seen are large boxes, which wouldnt work in the situation of the HDD that is in its mounted place.

I want to avoid cutting up my case if at all possible.

Thanks.

If the noise is from the hdd's and not from vibration, there isn't a lot you can do. You'd have to insulate the hdd's and that just creates heat problems. Whatever traps sound almost always traps heat as well.

Some drives are just more noisey than others. If you aren't happy with the drives, you could always swap them out for a different make/model.
