Silencing a Geforce 3

Anyone have suggestions on what to look for to silence a Geforce 3? I recently changed out a TNT2 for a Geforce 3 in my parents box, and it has a high pitch whine that I never heard when i was using it. I'd like to get something that would allow it to overclock it as well, so the few times I come over here and feel like playing a game, it's not dead slow.

It's a Gainward GF3 ti200 GS. It will clock up around 250MHz with the stock cooling solution. The gpu is also lapped. I'm just looking for something cheap and quiet so I don't have my mom call me everyday bugging me about how loud their computer is. :rolleyes:

Any suggestions on what to get? Everything I've seen at newegg is geared toward newer cards.
 
the zalman dual-heat pipe cooler might be a good idea, though its like $40 delivered probably. Could just buy a quiet 80 or 92mm fan and glue-gun it to the heatsink on the card, probably the cheapest but definately not the prettiest thing :p

I definately recommend the Zalman dual heat-pipe cooler, it's been running completely passive on my 6800U with excellent temps.
 
i think a NV silencer for the Geforce 4 cards would fit. the NV silencer is almost inaudably and they are on $25 at newegg.
 
A GF3? You could probably just get an old heatsink from somewhere and just thermal epoxy it on and cool it passively.

I'd suggest getting an all-copper heatsink (perhaps a 1U Athlon heatsink like this one), drilling holes through it that match up with the holes in the videocard, and attaching it that way (you'd probably need to also purchase some narrow screws and plastic washers for the back). Use good thermal paste between the chip and the heatsink, and you shouldn't have to worry about temperatures. I have a Geforce 2 using about this same setup, and it works fine.
 
Thanks for the suggestions. I think I might try out an old heatsink first and see if I can get that to work before going to commercial solutions. I don't use this computer much except when my folks are out of town and I have to watch the dog, so I'd rather spend money on my box rather than this one. It's time to hunt down an old heatsink and stat drilling.
