Try this.
 
It works fine on my laptop running xp without a patch. (Just started playing it again, 30min into it) It causes a memory error on my win2k machine when in the first battle though. Whats it doing on your machine?
 
It worked fine on my Win XP machine as well, until the first chocobo race... Apparently that is a common error on XP, so I would recommend the patch even if you haven't noticed any problems yet.
 
I liked VII. I liked X except for that stupid sphere grid crap. X-2 was just weird and hardly felt like FF at times.

i heard they were suppose to remake FF7 with "new graphics" this was 5 years ago so i guess they never got around to it
