I visited the Intellitext offices a couple of years ago when they were just starting up. We will probably be doing a trial run on the main site soon, but honestly, I just don't ever see using that in the forums. I don't really like it myself and am not sure it will work out in our content. The forums I see running it have lost me as a member as it is just too distracting in this environment.

My how times have changed. You would probably retain more members if you made it a pay only site. I know I for one will click the newegg and banner adds all the time, but will make a point NEVER to mouse over any sort of intellitxt. In fact, I had blocked it within 30 seconds of realizing what it was. I originally thought I was infested with spyware; then I realized what had happened. Keep in mind the reputation of copmanies that get themselves involved with this sort of advertising. Just imagine if Dell did it....

Gotta do what you gotta do. He said that he may have to implement it to make money. He's a business man. Thats what people do is make money.

If we didn't have all the dicks here blocking ads on the page, we wouldn't have to deal with the intelliTXT, so I don't want to hear people complaining. Deal with it. It is a free forum, he has to make money somehow.

EDIT: Ah, I see you edited your post. I don't think that blocking intelliTXT is abiding by the rules. Also, it is because of the people that block ads that we have to have them. Please, leave them be and deal with them. If people just let the ads come through, we wouldn't have all this advertising in the first place.

I realize that and I also realize that it is his forum to do as he wishes. Nevertheless, there are better ways to make money than intellitxt. People just get pissed off and block that too...and if I didn't know how to block it, I would simply migrate completley to xtreme. Fortunatly, I know how to use google.

I simply can't work or relax with intellitxt. Even kyle himself admitted it. So it's not like the forum is losing money over it anyway....and as for abiding by the rules, you can't tell people not to have anti-malware on their machine :p

edit: although I guess the proof is in the pudding: 70 people viewing vid cards? 47 viewing AMD? 24 viewing Intel? Thats down at least 40% from normal....

I think the Admins would get less of a rap if they removed the ads for subscribed members. Alot of them aren't the kind of people who would click on the ads (at least Intellitxt) anyway. $5 (minimum) for a subscription (per user) is more than enough to keep the boards running, as well as rake in a hefty profit.

I would subscribe in an instant.

Kyle said they were looking into technology that keeps the forum from being viewed if the ads were blocked. I seriously hope it doesn't come to that. It would scare off so many of the people who make this forum what it is.

I think that has more to do with the time of day than anything else, though I have noticed a gradual decline in members since the Intellitxt was implemented.

There will be ways around that too. Although at that point I don't know what I'd too. If it was too much hassle....

It's prime time; 9:00 on the west coast. friday night.

Been nice knowing you. Surprised the ban hammer hasn't already hit.

As in banner ads. It is against the rules to block ads here and those people are the reason that we have intelliTXT now.

I am all for Kyle's idea to implement that technology. It will keep out the people that won't support the forum.

last I heard, he was talking about implementing some technology that would not allow users to view any pictures on the forum if ads were blocked. It would keep out the people that can't follow the rules or support the forum.

I hope he does implement it. It would weed out the crappy members and keep the good ones. Plus, he might then be able to get rid of intelliTXT and get back to the regular ads.

Kyle even said that if people would stop blocking ads, we wouldn't need to put more on.

So stop bitching about it and support the [H] by allowing ads and allowing Kyle to make money without putting us through hell. This might eventually become a pay site at this rate, and that would suck for all of us. We would lose 90% of our population and probably all of the guests...

Deal with the ads people and we won't get more. Its a vicious cycle. The more you block the more we get. The more we get, the more you block.

Don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out.

I think this has been discussed enough. If Kyle decides to keep them, they stay; if he doesn't, they go. It's as simple as that. I know a lot of people here don't care one way or the other, as long as this place stays open. To the complainers, you seriously have no idea what running something like this involves. If you think 3 or 4 clearly marked text ads per page is to much, then I think you just like bitching and trolling. Grow up.

I don't block ads. I click them everytime I buy from newegg. I block spyshit like intellitxt. As far as valuable members; I have two powersupply guides/stickies to my name and a custom title. What have you done?

All I'm saying is that from a business perspective it would make a LOT MORE SENSE to allow subscribing members not have to view them. I know you'd get my money. Hell, I'd pay $20 just to get rid of Intellitxt. Do you think the forum gets more money from having me pay $20 or from dealing with (or 99% of people blocking) intellitxt?

http://www.hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1029649781&postcount=7

The only reason this is being done is because of people that block our ads. We lose about 20% of our revenue now days to people blocking ads. I looked into text advertising literally years ago but turned down the money because of my readers.....now I am having to put them on the site....because of my readers. Wish I could get that 2.5 years worth of money back now for being considerate.

We are now looking to implement technology to block all images on our site if the ads are blocked. Not because we want to...but because we are now seeing a real economical impact to our bottom line.

As you can see, Kyle addressed this issue.
