I have no idea whats wrong, I've tried it with everything plugged in, and just the essentials, and my computer will not post. The 4 diagnostic LEDs on the mobo all flash once when I turn it on, but only the first time, then I have to turn the power supply off and back on in order for them to flash again. I can also hear a small buzz when they flash.

RAM is not the problem either, I've tried using just one stick and it still does it.

I remember back when the Winchesters came out people needed a BIOS upgrade sometimes for their computer to post, could this be the issue here?

Yeah most likely cause you have a Rev E chip, need a bios upgrade......now, im an XP owner so i dont know the details of the bios, or if it wont let you boot, but upgrade the bios then see what happens :p if not, try other troubleshooting......test vid card in another rig, and mobo and so on......could be the PSU as well, you didnt list the specs on it

Right, Antec 480W NeoPower

There's not really all that much that I can test with parts from another computer, this is my only 939/PCI-e build I've done. Also, Can I flash my motherboard when it doesn't post? I didn't think you could.. and I don't know anybody else with a 939 CPU that I could use to do it...

If your not familer with flashing your bios, look on your mobo's mf'er website............personly i know someone who owns a computer store.....

so what id do is what i do when sometings wrong/done to my machine, i buy him lunch and ask him to fix it :p......find a mom and pop comp store if you arent familer/scared to do it, buy him/her lunch they can do it, only takes all of well the time to each a burger :p

I've done my share of motherboard updates, but since I can't post, that means I can't boot from the FDD, er go I can't flash it.

Ok, i myself havent so i dont know what it really intels to do it.........if you cant post, troubleshoot all the parts you can.......in a buddys rig or familys rig......something....

Yeah, I've pretty much swapped out everything I can... which is nothing :p
Thanks anyway though..

Anyone else?

How's he going to flash the BIOS if the machine doesn't POST? :p

Well it turns out I'm just a huge fucking n00b and didn't properly plug in my video card's power adapter. Thanks for the help though.

Well, now you can look back and laugh at yourself. And we can laugh at you right now. lol :p

j/k It happens :D

Hehe, that wasn't actually me in that last post, but whatever.

Now I've run into a new problem. I was installing windows, and loaded up the SATA drivers and all that, then I clicked on my hard drive (74GB raptor), only to be met in the face with an uninformative BSOD. It was one of the "A problem has occured with your hardware" ones.

So I restart, and now it just hangs at "Verifying DMI pool data" during the post, or it will hang at "back up CMOS" if I just exited from the BIOS.

So... any ideas on how to fix this?

try flashing the board to the newest bios.. and if it wont get to a state where you can flash it (ie, booting from a floppy), hotflash it.

guide for hotflashing:

1. turn on another PC, boot up. (or too a C: prompt)
2. take out BIOS chip on running machine. put it somewhere where you wont lose it :p
3. take the BIOS chip out of the dead/ unworkable board
4. but the bad bios chip into the running board
5. flash the chip with the messed up board's newest/working BIOS.
6. replace BIOS chips

done :)

Hmmm... turns out I can't get far enough in the POST to boot from the floppy... and that hot flash seems scary :D ;) .

Any other suggestions? This is starting to bug me...

Damn, this just isn't working out. I tried some things that site said, one of which was set the BIOS settings back to normal. So I go into my BIOS and select "last bootable configuration" or something, restart, get up to the DMI part and then the screen goes black and my monitor gets a yellow LED instead of the green.

Now it won't POST again, even after clearing the BIOS...

I'm hungry.

...hotflash....

...hotflash...

...hotflash....

:D

aside from RMA'ing the board, it might be your only option. do it on a board you dont care about if you're scared :)

NEVER!!! :p

Really though, if it comes to that, I'll just take it to a computer shop.

But I'd like to try everything I can before that.

Alrighty, don't ask me how, but I fixed the DMI issue.

Now, I can go into the Windows install screen, get to where I select my hard drive, but from here on, I either get a random reboot, an IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (or whatever) BSOD or just "A problem has occured" when I choose the raptor, or i'll get a PFN_LIST_CORRUPT BSOD when I choose my other hard drive (250 GB Seagate SATA)...

I'm running memtest right now, just in case, but I'm out of ideas, and may have to RMA the board :( .. Any other suggestions?

...Damn, that was one hell of a run on sentance.

Wow, 1800 errors in one pass in memtest...

On the bright side though, I'm installing windows with my one good stick of RAM and its smooth as butter!

I'll be sure to report back when I make my next noob mistake :D
