I have a setup like this (hope it came out ok):

back
_____________
|..........--------....|
|..........| cpu |....| <- case fan blowing air out
|..........--------....|
|......................|
|......................| ----> this side is either facing up or right
|......................|
| PSU.....DVD..|
|____________|

The case fan is just 1-2" away from the CPU and the CPU heatsink has a fan that blows side way. It is a LGA 775 CPU so I suppose I can put the heatsink in any orientation. Is there a preferred way to position the CPU fan?

You should position the heat sink fan so that the air it blows away out of the heat sink goes directly to the exhaust fan and then into outside the case.

My 2 cents.

I agree--you want the hot air from the CPU exhausted out of the case.

Thanks. This is the heat sink + CPU fan I am talking about (but not my case). Is it a good heat sink? Would I be able to find a better one than this for below $15 shipped?
