Side intake (tunnel style) question

Picked up a Cooler Master Centurion 5 (newegg link) and it has a side opening thats shaped like a tunnel that you can extend so it nearly touches the HSF, see the pic below:

Question: Would it be best to extend that right over my hsf (cnps7700), or to cover up the side openings entirely to maintain strict airflow front to back?? Also have an extra panaflo laying around so perhaps i could mount the fan at the front of the tunnel to suck air directly off the hsf and out the side. Sound is priority (dorm room computer) but obviously I want to keep things cool. Thanks.
(case has 80mm intake, 120mm exhaust)
 
use it, its part of intels updated ATX spec for its newer hotter processors and it helps amd parts too, Nice cool room temp air for your cpu, it wont greatly effect the case flow.

I build comps and use a case that was recently updated to include the side vent. With exact same motherboard and processer in a batch of 50 computers I immedately noticed a 2 deg C or more drop in cpu temps as measured in the bios during burn-in-testing when I started using the side vent models in the middle of the production run.
 
oh, forgot, what might not be obvious, I cant tell from the pic, is that with some vents you can unscrew the vent from the side panel and add a 80mm fan in between the side of the case and the vent. That really helps with hot intels (3.0 GHz or higher prescotts with stock heastsink). Even if you do the 7 volt mod on the fan to keep the noise down, its a big help in cooling those jokers down.
