Side fan blowing out?

Ive always instaleld fans on the side of the case blowing cold air in on the processor. I bought two cases the other day with both having a fan in the middle on the side. Both cases had the fans blowing air out. Which is the best direction?
 
In the past you could say pretty easily that having the fan blow in is the best idea but these days graphics cards have such weird coolers that having cold air getting sucked out right above it might be better - you'll really have to test out what works best. However, if I just wanted to do it and get it done I'd have it blow in because that will give direct flow onto your parts.
 
i think an intake is the best since nowadays cpu push out a lot of air and that you really need a back outake fan :O
i have 2 intakes fans in my side window. i dremeled one that blow right under the videocard. it would be great with ramsinks hehe
 
I think intake for the side fan is the best bet, esp if the fan blows directly onto the CPU. Unless you have a high cfm (loud) front fan you won't get much cool air back to the CPU in an ATX case.

I played with my side fan and set it to blow out. My CPU temps went by around 5 degrees. Reversed it to blow in and the temps went down. Unless your case has some ingenious flow dynamics designed into it, side = intake.

You need to test it both ways because I actually get a nice temp drop CPU, GPU and pretty much systemwide (via diode) when I use my side fan as exhaust. Convection and air escape can be a mysterious thing depending on what case you have and what components. Just keep an open mind and experiment.

I think sometimes when you have too much air coming in it creates pressure or stagnante air pockets where in most instances you want the opposite - air rushing out of your system like a vacuum faster than it can come in...
 
That doesn't make sense, because if you had a lack of air pressure, then the fans wouldn't have any air to move through the case.

Air pressure inside the case should promote movement of air through the case and out the exhaust fans
