Side air intake question.

I have a window 120mm side air intake. The outside of the intake has a FilterRight clear aluminium fan filter. What I was thinking of doing was replacing the FilterRight with a stainless steel Fan Grille and then using an A.C. Ryan Meshx Fan guard under the grille.

Which set-up is better for keeping out dust and particles? I'm not sure if the A.C. Ryan allows good air flow, but still keeps out the particles. Does anyone have any experience with these 2 filters, and which set-up would you recommend.

I like the grille idea, but that part is purely for aethetics.
 
I haven't had experience with either but if I may give my opinion...
From what I've seen from the AC Ryan filter doohickey in pictures it seems that you'd be sacrificing a lot in terms of fan performance from using it. If the dust situation is not too severe I recommend just using the standard wire fan guard if you must use one at all. Otherwise you'd just be creating a lot of noise with the constricted airflow.
If you can handle the dust buildup or can get a cheap fabric air filter from home depot then go with that.

Thanks for the reply. The FilterRight is a fabric filter, but it screws on to the outside of your case, which does not allow for a grille. Again, it was mostly aesthetics that I was looking into, but I will take function over form and stay with the FilterRight. Thanks again.
 
I like the AC Ryan design as you can clean the filter without having to unscrew the entire fan mounting setup.
 
Is the AC Ryan restrictive in air flow? Outside of being easy to clean, is it a good filter?
 
I haven't had any issues with the AC Ryan or noticed any airflow issues.
