Side air duct question

Do the side air ducts on a lot of those cases have mounts for fans? Are they even supposed to be used in conjunction with fans?

Hi sorry but your description is a little vague perhaps if you could tell us which case or case's your talking of we could answer your question a little easier or even better still pic's or links would be good.

Sorry about the lack of links, I guess it never occured to me that some would/wouldnt work with fans.

im just looking to get a cheap case, and was wondering about these fan ducts, back when i was into hardware last (5 years ago) you had to make your own, so i had never seen these things come pre-installed.

from the looks of the pictures you gave us, i am pretty sure that you could put a fan on the case and then the ducting tube on the fan...however, i would recommend not using those ducting tunnels because they really dont do much. the one i have and use looks kind of like a flexible almost like a dryer ducting tube, its small and it bends to fit flush againts both fans on the case and the processor so it is more effective at transfering the air. I would post a picture but i couldnt find it on newegg or google.

ohhh, so the plastic part extends to encompass the hsf?

Part of the HSF... Unless you're up to duct taping it on... you're not gonna notice much benefit (now, if you do tape it you'll notice alot). And yes, they extend to the fan part of the HSF.

i still recommend the flexible one that costs like...10 bucks tops...maybe 5 even if you look. its blue and fits 80mm fans. It doesnt require you to tape anything.
