Shuttles NF3 250gb announced.

Anyone knows if it will run a little quieter than current shuttles, especially with the rev up rev down sound. I have only seen an SK41G though.

That'll be the nForce4 SFF. I was going to hold out, but this Shuttle meets 90% of what I wanted on next upgrade.

i was hoping it woudl support pci-express :(
Wow, people are even more demanding of SFFs than they are of full-sized desktops. I don't see anyone in the mobo section asking if every motherboard that is released has PCIe.

bob321, it should run a bit quieter than the current SN85G2V2 or SB75G2V2 because of the larger fan. I wouldn't think the constant wind up/ wind down would be too annoying because it's a linear transition which means it slides fluidly instead of 500rpms at a time which you do notice.

And it's much better than the P-chasis too. Seems to be the same size as a standard XPC.

Hell, I'm running a 6800GT OC and its running nice. No problems running it in this incoming box. Also, I believe it was entioned that this would be available sometime in Mid-August.

Just as an FYI, this is the socket939 part, but because the the new configuration with the socket in front, this should be better in the noise dept.

Socket's not in the front. Same mobo layout as the SN85. Look below.

Isn't the 6800GT and your LCD a bad combination? It doesn't even do 1200x1600.

Yeah, what are you talking about? It runs 1600x1200 just fine. That was someone spouting about how the Nvidia cards couldn't do this resolution when it was a driver issue. Runs great.

Opps, I was thinking of the BTX format and not the 939, my mistake.

Oh good grief, and here I was waiting for tomorrows Athlon 64 price cuts to order a SN85G4v2 with a 3200/1MB

Pluses:
- 939 more future proof
- Gigabit ethernet
- It looks WAY better without the card reader noone uses anyway.
- maybe quieter and cooler?
- will make the 85G4 cheaper :)

Minus:
- No PCI express (ok not really a minus)
- Not available yet
- The 949 chips are more $$$, but the tiny 512KB cache chokes the dual channel memory.
- likely to cost more then the 85G4 does.

Any ideas on ETA and pricing? Where is the shuttel rep when you need them...

Interesting, didn't see that before. It seems to be only a few persons with the issue though. And it seems to be more of a driver issue than a hardware issue. But since MrE's 6800GT is working perfectly with his LCD though DVI at 1600x1200, then I guess he is not one of the few or he had the correct drivers to start with, not really sure.

Again, this is not an issue. This was a specfic LCD and the BFG card. Read to page 5 and you will find the following:

After discussing with NVIDIA, this is what we found:

1. The issue is in the EDID of the Samsung 240T and they specify 52Hz for both 1600x1200 and 1920x1200.

2. NVIDIA drivers have a 60 Hz limit

3. The limit will be removed in NVIDIA Rel. 65 drivers

4. A reg key is provided in NVIDIA's 61.74 web release

There was one person blaming BFG that it was happening on all Nvidia cards and you will noticed he got banned for his comments.

I'm very interested in this new model for a second computer. I may want to put a 6800Ultra in it.

Will I lose my only PCI slot if I did ? I would want this for a wireless connection but I guess a USB type would be available.

Any info appreciated.

You can't do 2-slot cards in any Shuttle but the new SB81P. And even then, you can't do the ones that need 2 slots to stick out the back. So the 6800Ultra is definitely out on this one.

Also, the PN15 integrated 802.11g wireless adapter is availble for $75. It's all internal and fits in the antenna punch out on just about every Shuttle.

Well you can, but then you cannot put the case lid back on. :) Not to mention that this monster (the ultra) pull a bit more juice than the GT models so you'd be pushing it.

my friend was interested in this sff after i showed him the links and he called shuttle and the first time the told him the it would be availible sometime in late july or august, but they then called him back and told him it was only availible in Germany.

Heh, who's gonna start the petition for Shuttle to make a dual 939 nForce4 SFF with SoundStorm2 and dual PCI-E instead of AGP and PCI?

just as soon as they come out with a shuttle sized blast freezer :D

I figure that they can develop some kind of tube that you would have to insert a popsicle, making sure that you change it once a month...

To PCI-E I say no thanks as an alternative to agp. Of course a couple 6800 gts oc's or ultras in sli mode would be great but $1000 uh uh notta keep dreamin' nvidia. I prefer Audigy 2 ZS over SoundStorm 2. They just make a superior product even if you don't like them (and I don't.)

And as for the SN95G5 not being available in the US... if that is true that just bites. I guess I will go with an upgradeable Aria instead.

So they didnt say if it would eventually come to the US? Anyone know any german online stores that ship internationally? I need to get one of these one way or another.

the SN95G5 is listed on the european shuttle websites, so i dunno if they're jsut waiting to release it US or if it really is only availible over there

Ok... Im probably putting my foot in my mouth, but has anyone ever noticed any previous Shuttle rigs for sale anywhere BUT the USA?

Are you kidding me? There's more European Shuttles users than US ones. Also don't worry about US availability. Shuttle support is just completely moronic.

Well maybe someone can hit the SFFTech forums and pry some information out of Odie... I think he works for Shuttle's UK area... has given good info in the past....

i emailed a representative of shuttle concerning the expected release date of the sn95g5

here is his reply

Thank you for your email.

Until now, there is no ETA date for new XPC model SN95G5.
But I am sure that this model will not arrive in August.

Please check Shuttle Computer website: http://www.us.shuttle.com/ for
product update news or information every week.

Thank you.

Sonic Tseng

I have used Sonic Tseng as a regular contact at shuttle for 2 years now and find his information to be reliable. Start emailing shuttle reps for more info! i'm praying someone will get a reply that has something to do with a release in august rather than september. ugh :(
