What exactly are you trying to do? Are you trying to have it where your hi-fi stereo system can play both audio from the TV and audio from the Shuttle XPC?

I am using the shuttle as a media pc it has all of my music and a dvd burner in it with a HDTV tuner card. I want to connect the shuttle to my hi-fi stereo and to the television. This will allow me to use the dvr functions of the tuner card while playing the computer image to the televison. The television has composit inputs and outputs and also has a standard VGA port along with a DVI port. Please advise

Well, im not exactly sure what model shuttle you have (or if there are diffrences between the XPC lineup), but if its like this http://sys.us.shuttle.com/Why_Inside9.aspx then these are your two options.

The first is to use the 6 channel audio to connect to the "extension input" on your receiver (may be called ext in). You use three analog cables and this will give you TRUE surround sound.

You can also use the SPDIF optical output on your shuttle. Use an optical cable and connect this to the "optical audio input" on your receiver (you do have a receiver of some sort, don't you?).

~Hope this helps

<edit> Oh, and for the video to the TV, just use the video output on the HDTV tuner card and find the appropiate input on the TV..... so for example, if the HDTV card has a S-video output, look for a s-video output on your tv.

<edit 2> When I said use 3 analog cables to connect your shuttle to your extension inputs, that can be done with a "mini to RCA cable" (assuming the extension inputs on the receiver are RCA). example of a mini to RCA cable

okay i do have the spdif so if i use the optical spdif do i still need to use all those other ports on the shuttel to connect or will it play surround sound via the optical spdif cable.

This might be a question for a new thread on its own, because i'm not sure. In general, it all depends on how the shuttle's built in audio "outputs" the sound. Does it do PCM stereo, or can it output other formats that deliver TRUE surround sound.

Your best bet is to ask if your shuttle can output 5.1 surround sound from a DVD though the Optical cable.

Sorry I couldn't help more

~Good luck.

Thanks you have been a tremendous help. Maybe someone else will read this thread and reply
