Shuttle XPC power LED mod?

Yeah the blue is cool to look at.. but my computer is in my bedroom and the whole room shines up blue at night. I've been using a piece of thick paper to lean against the xpc.. to cover the blue led. I was thinking.. I could swap it to red led... has anybody here done it? What's the size of the led? Any specified led to be use for XPC?

For weird reference if any- its SN41G2

i would imagine it to be standard led, which isnt hard to find, but one thing about it is that the shuttle system is all rivoted together, so either u have a really hard time taking the front panel off, or u have a really hard time putting it back on...my 2 cents

Ah just found the answer from other forums... to make it easier for everybody who may be curious as well..

The led is 5mm, operates at 3.3V.

Hm.. my xpc's front panel is held up by 4 allen keyed screws... and I didn't have any problem getting access to the leds..

yeah.. i 2nd that.. i have thought about just disconnecting it.. but i am too lazy, and the blue light is nice, it is just enough to guide me across the room to the lightswitch when i wake up..

oh is that what those do? i thought hte allen screws were just for holding onto the clear plastic protector. Cool, i was looking at the case and the whole frame is rivoted together, so i just assumed the front panel was as well, my bad...

Just changed it to red led.. it glows beautifully.. and somehow.. evil?? I used a led that has 3.6VDC max.

Haha I have the exact same problem, though I dont feel like just replacing the led.
If the power to it wasnt supplied by a ribbon cable I'd grab 4 square pieces of plexiglass and put some leds in them, then use them as the feet for the case AND the power led. I seen a mod somewhere where they did this and it looked oh so cool.
If only I wasnt so lazy :\

Hmm.. the leg mod sounds really cool.

I'm just doing this to reduce the glare when I'm sleeping. (I'm deaf, so bright light bothers me.) Blue is pretty bright and gives out nasty glare in a dark room. Red doesn't glare at all, it doesn't shine up the room. At last I can sleep more comfortable tonight.

hi the new shuttle xpcs come with a setting in the bios so u can modify how bright the led is

Here's what I did: I've got an SS51G, which has a different sort of front panel. The power and drive LEDs are rectangular and in line with the power and reset buttons. I cut 2 small squares of adhesive silver mylar film and put them over the LEDs, exactly lined up with the buttons. The LEDs are behind the plastic front panel, so I get a diffuse glow around the silver tape instead of a piercing bright light.
(It's my server and media machine so the light was bothering me when I watched movies with the lights turned down.)
