Shuttle Video Card Question

I recently purchased the following system:

Shuttle SG31G2
E6750
4GB DDR2 800
250GB Seagate 7200.10
XFX 8600GT 265MB

The 8600GT is unbelievably loud, especially when I think about using this as a HTPC. I was considering replacing this card with an EVGA 8600GTS 256MB. Any idea if this card's fan is quiet? I'd really like a card with a fan that adjusts depending on temperature. It seems that the XFX 8600GT fan just runs at 100% regardless of temperature.

On the second thought, it appears that the 8600GTS requires additional power, something that i'm wary of with a 250W shuttle PSU.

What about the EVGA 8600GT? When I look at the pics, it appears to have a fan that has 4 wires, as opposed to the XFX fan which has two wires. I've read that if the fan has 4 wires, it will adjust RPM based on temperature, where the 2-wire fans run at 100%. Is this true? Can anyone comment on the noise level of the EVGA 8600GT?

I just built something similar last night. Same case with a q6600, seagate drive, 4gb ram and i run the evga 9600GT superclocked. I don't think its loud. Only time is when you first turn it on before the fans adjust the speed. I haven't noticed the 9600gt fan at all yet. Think the little bit of fan noise is from the small power supply fan. I'll check it out when i get home to be sure. people on newegg say its loud, others quiet. quiet ones usually mention auto fan control working.

Yes, all my noise comes from the small fan on the power supply.

You are correct to be wary of the 250W shuttle PSU. I fried one with the EVGA 7950GT. I moved to a 7600GT, and put the 7950GT in a different PC. Not happy about losing that on my shuttle, but at least they repaired it without a problem (Shuttle).

What are the graphics like from the integrated graphics? Are they horrible?

i can vouch on the EVGA 8600GTS being quiet , my father runs this card an isn't audible at all .. my friend just got rid of the XFX 8600GT an i agree that card is DAMN loud ...

I can vouch that absolutely no fan that has the straight-blade design that pushes air sideways is going to be quiet. It's impossible, as they need to spin at high speeds to actually move air. And those fans are really small.

I'd recommend replacing the cooler.

edit: To those of you talking about the 8600GTS - you all must have a very different definition of quiet than me.

edit2: Oh, it's the xfx no-fan-control problem. Contact XFX, they'll send you a cable that lowers the fan speed for free. Try it first.

avt i wouldnt be so sure about that, mine is pretty quiet..... and he is only gonna run a 8600gt... cooling really isnt an issue eh?

My definition of quiet is something along the lines of 'if I can hear it, it's not quiet'. :)
