hey guys im just wondering if this system would be good. Its my first build and just need some advice.

specs; Shuttle Model SN41G2B or SN41G2V2B
160 gig western digital 8 mb cache 7200rpm
NEC 8X Black DVD+RW/-RW Drive
AMD Athlon XP 2800+ Barton
512mb crucial 184 pin ddr400
POWERCOLOR ATI RADEON 9600XT or a POWERCOLOR ATI RADEON 9600XT, but im worried about there being enough power for the 9800pro

any input would be nice:D
 
Shuttle model: Get the V2, its MUCH better, and it has the new kickass PSU.

CPU: Get the AMD 2500+ Barton. That will overclock sweetly well in the V2.

Videocard: Go for the 9800pro if you got the cash. The PSU will handle it no prob :)

Also, if you have the money, go for 2x512 1 gig is MUCH better than 512... I wish I went with a gig instead :(

But just atleast get the V2 SN41G2 and the Barton 2500. The v2 SN41G2 is kickass at overclocking now, and the barton will easily hit 3200+ speeds if you kick up the FSB to 200. The V2 officially supports 200fsb aswell.

and i think newegg made a typo. For the SN41G2V2B it says it only has the 200 watt psu, but i think it means the 250 silent x or whatever it is.

and yea i got enough money for the 9800pro so i think i might get it, as well as the V2

and is this the processor u mean here
 
Yes thats the one, except get OEM as you dont need the heatsink :) Your choice though.

The v2 comes with the 250 watt silentX, and yes it will power a full audigy 2, p4 3.2, and 9800xt. Its no wimp.
 
First of all, get the V2, its a much better board and the SilentX power supply is a lot better than the Enhance or Achme 200 watter that you get with the V1 (rev 1 or 2 mobo).

I'd say go with a mobile 2500+. It would run cooler with less volts. Also, you could pump up the FSB if you wanted to. In a shuttle, you want something cooler.


Oh yeah, you probably want to replace the ICE fan since its really loud (at least for me it is). Panaflo is alright, though I recently replaced my panaflo with a SilenX... sooooooooo much less noise even with panaflo turned down with Speedfan (another handy little util most shuttle owners love since there isn't much space for a fan controller).

Also, a cheaper alternative to the crucial ram is ram with infineon chips. They work great with Shuttles and are quite reliable and cheap.

I'm not too sure about the WD drive due to sound concerns as well. But one thing for sure, you don't want maxtors in shuttles. They are too hot and there have been quite a few cases of burnt out drives over at Sudhian/SFFtech. Samsung spinpoint and Seagate drives are what I recommend for shuttles.

If you don't mind waiiting another couple of months, you should consider the SN45GV2. That's going to be released with the SilentX PSU as well. Also, you won't be paying for the IGP that you won't be using (you're getting a 9800pro, right?).

I wouldn't go with the Audigy2 unless its the ZS since it wouldn't be worth it. You have Soundstorm on that board and it performs admirably.

Anyways, that's my $0.02 CDN for what its worth.
