I'm having trouble ensuring I have my CPU sensors set up correct.

first i installed MBM5, but it reported the CPU temp (31C) to be cooler than the case temperature (37C)!

so i tried SpeedFan 4.22, which works somewhat better, but still seems to have problems. It reports my CPU running at 40-44C - which is believable, as I have the fan speed pretty low on the system.

but, there are lots of other sensors, some of which are reading in the 36-38C range, which might also be my CPU.

and to top it off, when I quick restart the system and go into bios to see what the bios reported temps are, it usually gives me 21-22C for the CPU temp, and about 33C for the case temp. doesn't make sense, unless that report is backwards (as i suspect)

Does anyone know what addresses are the correct ones for the CPU, etc on in an SN95G5? Or maybe a piece of software that would better detect temps?

Athlon64 3000+ (stock 1.8Ghz)
1 stick 512MB Crucial Ballistix
80gig Seagate SATA HDD (8mb cache)
Radeon 9800pro 128MB -OR- a GeForce2MX 64MB vid card
NU DDW-082 DVD-RW drive
Shuttle SN95G5 case/mobo/power supply

Don't trust your life on MBM or SpeedFan

The 'local' temp in speed fan is the only temp reported correctly (except for HD0 etc.)

If you are really worried jsut buy a thermal sensor and put it next to your core.
 
Well I have also same thing. CPU tems are mostly higher then system temps.

On one had it's realy logical to suspect that they have marked CPU and systemp temps wrong. On other hand SFF is much different then normal system.
Like if they have placed system probe on mobo next to a VRM mosfets or in PSU then it will show higher temps then air temps in case. Simular like on 6800 cards system temps are 10+ C higher then what You measure in case next to a card.
Air that goes over a VRM anmd other hot components neve get's hot as component it self.

So if BIOS reports CPU temp of 40 C when loaded it means air temps in case are ~10 C lower then CPU temps so ICE cools CPU to 40 C. At same time mainboard is 49 C cause on full load it has lot's of current going thru it so sensor reports higher temp of system then CPU.

Basicly on SN95G5 smart fan function is enough to cool CPU right.On other hand it creates to les airflow thru a case to cool efficiently mainboard and hot grafic card.

Also fan on PSU stays to low to cool efficiently PSU specialy when powering lot of strong components. IMHO it should just start turning bit faster when CPU is on full load to compensate for more energy made by PSU.

Thats why mid seting is a must if You are using power hungry components.
Alos You can mod a SN95G5 to achive better cooling. Just search for My post over a cooling of a G chassis Shuttle XPCs.

BTW 939 CPU and mobos realy need two sticks ram to work with full power.
Also 1GB makes much difference on SN95G5.
I have tryed it with 2x 256 MB and with 2x 512 MB. Although 256 modules are faster and OC better system works 10x better with 1 GB.

Also I've stated before that A64 939 CPU's and whole platform needs more ram. Many people correctly have sad that CPU can't need more RAM.

Though let me explain it. I've tested SN95G5 with 3000+ and 2x256 MB against SK41G (VIA KM266) 2400+ TB and 1x 512 MB.
Strangly SN95G5 was more swaping and hanging on disk and interupt activities as SK41G. Like in HL2 there was no end on caching with 512 MB on SN95G5.
Like memory thruput was like 2x + bigger on SN95G5 and it was hanging!!????
Then I've used 1GB and SN95G5 changed complitly. It's just working great.
That's why I've sad 939 platform is RAM hungry.
Though it has realy nothing to doo with CPU as it has to doo with a HTT. HTT works on 200 MHz 5x plus it's DD bus. That's effectivly 2 GHz FSB :eek: Thats shurly fast but bus is just 16 bit wide so if it get's stucked it's slow. And it's not so hard to make trafic jam in it :)

So use DDR and 1 GB and Your SN95G5 will be even faster then now.

Temp1 - IT8712F - 40
Temp2 - IT8712F - 36
Temp3 - IT8712F - 43
CPU - ADT7463 - 44
Local - ADT7463 - 35
Remote 2 - ADT7463 - 24
Temp - LM75 - 0
HD0 - HD0 (80.0GB) - 39
Temp1 - ACPI - 40

Also, the first three are on the ISA Bus, address $290. The next four are nForce3 bus and $2E or $4E address. The hard drive is using SMART and is at $0, and "temp1" the last one is on the ISA at $0 address.

I figure with all those temps, some of them must be somewhat accurate? Any more ideas?

PS - Thanks for the advice on RAM, I'm planning on buying another stick here sometime in the near future.
