Shuttle SN85G4 5.1 speaker problem!

Ok here is my problem: I just purchased a set of the Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 Ultra speakers, and well I'm using the onboard audio on my shuttle which has always suited me just fine. The problem comes in that when I do the speaker setup by running the NVIDIA speaker wizard setup it doesn't output sound to the right rear channel. I only have the speakers plugged up from the back speaker plugs on the shuttle since I have heard of people having issues with 5.1 and using the front speaker plugs.

I have been trouble shooting to the point that I know it's only the sound card that just isn't outputting to the rear right channel. It's got to be some kind of driver issue, but I'm having a hard time figuring it out, and I need some fellow Hard|OCPer's help with ideas of why the sound card isn't doing what it should be.

Oh just one more time I want to clarify that their is nothing wrong with the speakers themselves, or the way that they are hooked up.
 
Ok as dumb, and as retarded as this could be I have seemed to solve my own problem. The rear speakers being hooked up from the front speaker plug on the shuttle allows both left, and right rear channel to work, while the front left, right, and center and sub plugged into the back speaker plugs on the shuttle. Well at least it works correctly now, but like Kyle said at the Hard|OCP workshop forum last year at Quakecon I would like to see better on board audio options in the future.
 
Dude, I have an Abit and I had the same problem using onboard sound. I had to switch all the speaker plugs around just to get sound out of all of them at the same time, and then even on the controller I had to put the 4.1 surround sound option on (I have Altec Lansings) rather then the 5.1 because then it would kill my center speaker. Oddness.

Yeh I really wish that we could get some dam good quality audio chipsets (like the Audigy series) built into the mobos that are now being offered. When Doom III first came out I wanted to play it using my Home theaters 5.1 setup using the optical out port on my shuttle, only to found out that using digital outs will not do 5.1 surround sound, and that only analog outs would. Whats up with that?!? Sound chipsets need to be improved some, and maybe if Nvidia gets in the game like Kyle said they could then we could get some awesome sound products other than having to rely on a solution from Creative. Ya know encourage some competition in the sound card market.
 
Just a thought.

Check the Windows advanced sound properties for the Master Volume. There are some check boxes that can change how the sound is routed through the ports.

I know that when I hooked up my SFF system for the first time the mic port was set as an output the a sub. Took me longer than it should have to figure out why the mic wasn't working...
 
It's funny how when I replied, I hadn't hooked up Shuttle up yet (all the parts hadn't come). But now that it is hooked up, I'm also lacking sound out of the center speaker (5.1 setup). This is freaking sweet. I think I'm gonna have to do what the original poster did and mix some wires around. Ahhh well, how annoying...

Nopt sure if you've gotten this one figured out yet, but I own two of the SN85G4's and they both work great in 5.1 settings. You need to check the advanced controls for master volume area and make sure the following boxes are checked. I'm attaching a screenshot just to avoid any confusion.

Mine were actually NOT checked, but after checking them, I still lack sound in my center speaker. How terribly disappointing...
