Shuttle SH55-J2

I can think of a lot better, and more customizable rigs for that $. Unfortunately, the best bet you haveat rig nirvana is likely the case that I have, which is in beta, the LanGear Mini-ITX. Not release yet. At final spec, will fit a 5970, slim optical, atx psu, 2x 2.5" and 1x 3.5" with 3x 120mms and 2x80mms.

Slim optical is deal killer for me unfortunately. Need speedy rip speeds.

There are 4 USB in back plus 2 more up front including esata.

There's nothing inherently WRONG with it, but you need to be careful that it doesn't turn into a heat monster. You'll want to get the smallest wattage CPU you can, especially if you're going to stuff a big double-slot card in there. I've had a Shuttle for two and a half years and I love it, but you have to watch out for heat.

If you have gaming in mind, I would suggest one of the 73w dual cores, not one of the 95w quad cores - not a lot of games even benefit from the extra two cores, but you'll be dealing with the heat all the time.
