Just got this thing today and already I'm having problems.

After putting it together I played some CoH without a problem. Then had to leave so I let it idle for about 2 hours.

Came home, sat down at my desk and was watching TV and out of the corner of my eye I saw it blue screen. I thought to myself "crap". Didn't think much of it so I rebooted and started playin some CS:S.

It did it again this time in game.


Now I can't seem to get it to boot without a video card and one stick of ram in bank 1.

Anything else and it refuses to boot. I've also noticed it has reset my BIOS while it was still plugged in.

Any help? I bought this open box so if I need to send it back to newegg (for refund) I'd like to be sure I need to by this weekend.
 
Going to assume shuttle case means this is a SFF system. Going to move it there. Also, need details on the system. Mobo, vid card, ram, HDD, bios and software versions..etc..

EDIT:I may get retard of the day award but is the system in question the one on your sig?

Yes system is one in sig. Yes a shuttle is an SFF.

I doubt it has anything to do with the BIOS. It seems to be a hardware problem. Seems this isn't an uncommon thing for shuttles. Guess I should have known when buying openbox.

I'm boxing it back up.
 
Might want to go to the Sudhian / SFFTech forums. That's probably the largest Shuttle forum around. Those guys have experienced all of this with their Shuttles.

Considering it seems one of the (two) ram banks is dead. I find it irrelevant to make more than one post about this. I'm going to be requesting an RMA from newegg hopefully tomorrow.

Not sure I'm gonna be going back to a Shuttle, yea, this may have been an isolated case but, shuttles seem to have to many DOAs so I'm gonna stick to mATX (a non proprietary format).
 
I guess their quality has gone down since last time I purchased one. I've been a member there for over six years, but haven't posted there since I sold my last Shuttle last spring. Shuttles are great and they do (or did) have pretty good quality units. It's just that they've never come through with their promise to start selling their motherboards separately. The best thing they could come up with was a lame eBay store to sell some replacement parts, etc..

Also, your problems are more likely due to having bought an open box item. It could have been a unit someone bought, jacked up and returned.

True, true.

Thing I find odd though is that when I got it, it looked as if it had never been opened and it even included everything a normal retail unit would. So, I don't know.
 
Exactly. There's no way to know what's been done to it.
