Shuttle or not to shuttle

I'm updating everything and my option is shuttle, or use my existing case and gain raid. I really like the shuttle, but is it worth the loss of other things such as raid, better cooling, and a better power supply.

I'm going shuttle as I need a fairly compact computer that I can repair my self. And I won't be loosing 'performance' either. I hope to pack a P42.8C, 512MB PC3200 ram, 120gig SATA, 120gig PATA, 9600XT Radeon and an M-Audio inside......

As for heat I will probably make 2 blow holes in the roof....

Shuttles are too limited. I would go with the current case. What yea got anyways.

Go with the shuttle. If you dont need the raid or 6 PCI slots, go with the shuttle. Just cut out the rear grill, drop in a quieter 80mm fan (like a coolermaster) and you'll be in buisness.

right now I have an xp 1700 in a lian li brushed case with open side. Already started with 9800 pro 128

I'd maybe use a soundcard, that is it for pci. I wouldn't even need that.

What I will be putting in
2600 Barton
9800 pro
gig of pc3000 hyperX
? on hard drive

Tried SB75G2 and no thanks. Just to freaking small for my tastes, especially all that hot hardware close together on a dinky 250watt PSU. Nope, no thanks.

lots of ppl are having fun with the mobile 2500+'s

Shuttles are nice...except for the damn 200W psu. That crappy-ass psu is prone to sudden death.

I currently have a shuttle with:
2500+
9800np
gig of pc4000 hyperx
80gb WD

and I most say its very nice. I like it alot. My other case is a lian li pc60 so I am used to have lots of room.

Hands down, Shuttle or SFF.

The age of the monster case has passed into history as far as I am concerned. I went with an SN85G4, and I will never go back. AMD64 3000+, 9800 Pro 128, 1gb DDR400, 160gb SATA, 40x Plextor CDRW, built in card reader, Gb NIC onboard, sound onboard, 240w SILENT PS......what else do you need?????!

This thing is SILENT, fast as hell, quiet and rock solid. I love the frigen little buger!

I also runa monthly LAN party locally, and O M G.....going to the LAN's has never been easier! This thing fits in a duffle bag! No more 100# case to lug around! Well.....except for my old 2.4c machine tha is now a game/file server at the LAN hehhee.

So go SFF.....I will never look back!

i have to stop myself from just buying one for the sake of it. they're just so damn tempting and affordable. :(

i like cooling, so i wouldnt. if they ever come out with a WC shuttle i'll sell my blood for one :D

yeh i definitely plan to go shuttle next computer build. so small, so stable, so quiet, so dark. it's the antithesis of my current system. plus the ladies like em too! ;)

When PCI Express is released.. are there gunna be mini itx pci express boards made ? Cuz if not, I stick with my tower. Shuttles look so damn cool, and are compact. But there will be more leaps and bounds in hardware in 2004 then all of 2000-2003, so I'm not sure if the Shuttles will even be able to support higher end hardware 3rd quarter of this year ... anyone know ? They already have major heat issues and oc'ing is er lets say not a good thing to do with SFF. With better chipsets and hardware comes higher temps, a vapochill SFF would own.. :)

Shuttle has announced that PCI express shuttles will be launched when the market is ready. Apparently, a new silent X PSU is being developed and may be external for power/heat/space reasons. A possible revamp of the ICE system also.

Basically, if shuttle wants to stay in business, the HAVE to be able to support new end hardware. If not, they go outa business. Simple as that.
