I have a bfg 6800 gt oc that uses a minimum of a 300w power supply. I think it's recommended to use at least a 400w ps though. I'm interested in getting a shuttle case and I've seen at least 1 person( mashie.org ) that used a 6800 gtoc card but I'm unable to reach that person right now. How is this done? I've only seen power supplies up to 250w max for these kinds of cases.

Can anyone help?

Thx, j

The wattage recommendation for power supplies is predicated on a typical gaming system and includes the consumption of all the various components. I haven't spec'd out a SFF system but I've considered it in the past. As I recollect the 6800GT can peak around 90W of actual power used (don't quote me, I'm not really sure where that number came from.). Since you won't be packing in a whole lot of drives or peripherals you may be able to get by with less than the recommended minimum.

I think the thing to do is to find the power consumption of all the components you are planning on using in the system and then seeing if the power supply you're considering has enough overhead to give you a warm fuzzy.

You'll be fine with a 6800gt in a SFF case. I ran one for a while in my sb65g2 w/ SilentX 250 watt PSU.

The only reason I'm not running it still is because my x800 has a quieter fan. [rhetorical question] Really, with this generation, does it really matter if you're running NV or ATI? [/rhetorical question]
