Ok I'm buying a PC soon (wining the month) and after building my wifes SFF PC I have discovered they are awesome. SO onto what it will be used for.

I am going to be using it for Gaming Manly and Lans.

I've selected that parts i will be using except the actuall shuttle case.

The current parts are.

Intel 3.2 Ghz P4 with HT
Corsair Twinx 2x512MB XMS4000 Pro (Got these already)
9800 Pro XT
NEC dvd writer. ( I can get Black/White/Silver)
250Gig HD (PATA as SATA ATM is just a bridged connection.)

But now i'm stuck. I want the MB to be the best possible. but i'm not upto speed on the ATI chipsets. so which chipset would i be better off getting the ATI or the INTEL ?

Not really following what you're saying but if you chose a P4 3.2ghz then you would have to go with an Intel chipset.

Why are you comparing ATI and Intel? Intel makes the processors and mobo chipsets, ATI is video cards. That particular shuttle you're talking about has onboard vga, which is the radeon 9100, made by ATI.

Depends on what you will be doing with it.

If you want a quiet rig, go with Ati. They have the new SilentX (not to be confused with SilenX) powersupply that runs cooler, quieter and delivers more power. OCing capabilities are rather lacking right now. The ST62K is also the smallest of Shuttle's offerings.

If you want more customizability (not sure if that's really a word :D ) look towards a SB75G2 or a SB65G2. Upgrade the BIOS (supposedly better performance). These OC a lot better than the Ati chipset shuttles. These are louder so you may want to replace the stock Sunon fan with something quieter.

Good luck with your purchase.

BTW, if you want to go an alternate route, check out the SN85G4. Its for AMD Athlon64's. 64-bit is the future :p!

Sheesh

ATI make motherboard chipsets

eg

Chipsets : North bridge:ATI Radeon 9100 IGP, South bridge:ATI IXP150

just becuase they are renowend for Graphics cards does not make they don't make chipsets. also the IGP would not be used anyway it's just the 9100 IGP northbridge.

I was contempalting going 64bit but i have a opertron system also in the works So I also want a intel

Edit :\thank's for that Noise is not really a issue. So which (with a bios upgrade) is gonna overclock the best. Oh all fan's would be replaced anyway

Although Would a Athlon 64 be faster than 3.2Ghz P4. in 32 bit mode.

If so what's the fasted avalible A64 out ATM

Hmm, not too sure about which OC's better. On the review on SFFtech, they pushed the SB65G2 up to 255mHz (stable) though there was option for more. On their SB75G2, they could push it stable to the max on the BIOS 255MHz.

I guess either ask around there or draw your own conclusions...

The intel chipset mobo would probably be a better choice, because you have already decided you want a good AGP card to go with it.

The ATi motherboard is nice, but not quite as fast as the Intel in memory benches (875 and 865PE are still Dual channel memory speed-demons)

The neat thing about the ATi is that even if you don't have the 9100IGP as the primary card, you can use it in a multimonitor system (IE: use it as a third screen output) Most older boards require you to disable the onboard video when plugging in an AGP card...

Big thumbs up for actually having the onboard video be useful in all situations.
