Shuttle and dead videocard fans

I'm wondering if I'm just phenomenally unlucky or if this experience is common, but the fan on any 3dcard that I put into my shuttle seems to crap out really quickly.

I'm not massively bothered, the shuttle is only used by other family members, but the fan thing is really annoying, it originally had a radeon9100, but the fan died and I replaced that with a 9600xt, and then the fan died, so I replaced it with a 6600gt but now the fan on that is starting to make whining noises well under 6months in.

I reckon it's a combination of the orientation and dust being sucked in through the side holes.

I'm very tempted to stick a passive cooler on it and just cut bits of the casing away to make it fit.

well, from personal experience, i dont know how good a passive cooler is either.

i have a radeon 8500 aiw in a shuttle, and last summer the fan broke. I couldnt find a replacement that would fit, so I slapped a passive zalman on there. now, less then a year later, I'm getting random lock-ups like once or twice a day, and i'm pretty sure its because the GPU is finally done with running hot and crapping out.

Either way, you're screwed.

G chassis ain't that good for VGA cooling. Only models like SB75G2 come with a mash grill cover and those have better GA cooling.
Problem is that for a CPU smart fan function is enough but it doesn't create enough air circulation to cool other components so HDD and VGA and mobo sufferes.

So or mod it or set fan on mid speed.

Better VGA cooler will doo work too.

Some VGA cooler fans are made to operate upside down and when used with card on wrong side or in vertical position they die. Also every fan dies faser in higher temperature envairoment.

Mash covers cost 55 to 70 $ and are verry good cooling solution.

If You want find My post in this part of a forum wich is about moding a G chassis ( G chassis hot to or something) here 'e found it http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=871725
