Shuts down without Warning

Hi there. I recently purchased an ASUS A7V600-X Mobo as well as an AMD Sempron 2600+. I figured I'd better format my computer for stability's sake. But, while doing so, my computer keeps on restarting without warning. It will restart while formatting my harddrive, installing Windows XP, and will restart while in XP. I finally got it to successfully install Windows XP, but only after hours of patient waiting and some luck. Now that it is installed, there are billions of bugs because of the numberous reinstallations of Windows and stuff; just tons of things are going bad. I've never had this problem before I got my new mobo and CPU. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Try running MemTest86 on your ram.

I had the exact same problem. I traced the problem back to a single bad ram stick.

Make sure to run memtest at least twice to make sure of the results you get. Often times you can narrow the problem back to one stick if you test one at a time. I had to RMA my OCZ stick nad they currently are working on getting me a new one.

Thanks guys. I haven't purchased any new RAM lately, and the problem only started after I put in a new mobo and CPU. But then again, things do get old. I have tried different settings in BIOS, and so far, running my video card on 4x instead 8x does the trick, but it still shuts down spontaneously, although not as frequently as before.... weird.

PSU is an Enermax EG365P-VE (350W). I did a test on a power supply website and it said that the minimum wattage that I should have with my rig is 300W. So, I think I'm ok in that area, although my PSU is about 2 years old.

Oh ya, I ran MemTest86 on my computer and the RAM checked out fine.....so I guess RAM isn't the problem...
