Can you cope without a computer all day? Well, tomorrow is Shutdown Day, some kind of experiment to see if you could go without a PC for a day. For those of you that can’t…we’ll see you here tomorrow. ;)

Be a part of one of the biggest global experiments ever to take place on the internet. The idea behind the experiment is to find out how many people can go without a computer for one whole day, and what will happen if we all participate!

I have to deal with computers 24/7...

I swear if I *could* shut down everything, I would. /luddite

Considering that this is my anniversary weekend, I think I'll be shutting it all down at least at home.

It is called vacation time, I take 3 weeks of it in a year and for the most part manage about 1.5 to 2 weeks of it to be PC free.

What do I do at home without my PC? I watch TV or play console games.

If you can't deal with not being at your PC for a day, go get counseling.

Sadly, I'll be working, so as much as I would love to participate I just can't. ;)

Yes, I'm reminded of the "I'm leaving for awhile threads" in Genmay. Typically over half of the posts in that thread are from the OP, and they only managed a few hours away. :p

Go without a computer for a day?About as likely as a politician telling the truth for a day!
Well, the download speeds should be pretty good tomorrow,at least.:)

Every once in a while I go camping for a week or two, as far away from civilization as I can find. I find it helps my state of mind a lot to disconnect for a while. I feel woefully out of touch afterward, but it doesnt take that long to get caught up.

in other news, the power grid overloads as an extreme drop in power use sweeps the nation.

I do without my computer on the weekends I visit my girlfriend at school. I check my mail on her laptop once or twice though. And ESPN, especially during March Madness. :D

I think ill just shut down the ole notebook but i cant shutdown my desktop for the life of me.

I won't be on :)

I have a jacuzzi to finish installing.

will do, I think. I maybe on later on that day but i got to do work arround the house first.

Anyone else find it funny that they wouldn't have known about "shutdown day" unless they read a lot of stuff on the computer?

So only by being on the computer a lot did I find out I was supposed to take a day off heh.

LOL..... is this so Al Gore can have another excuse to use more electricity than anybody else???

manbearpig gave al gore the idea!!!!!

and i'm suprised nobody has made this analogy with gasoline

"HEY IF WE GET PEOPLE TO NOT BUY GAS FOR A DAY WE SAVE $$$$$$$$" type deal :)

regardless people are going to buy gas, use computers, whatever no mattter if they have a sort of non commited "ban" on the said item

Of course!

He needs the extra power to run the supercomputers to crunch the weather models for "An Inconvenient Truth 2: More inconvenience" directed by Michael Bay

Actually I thought about it, but I didnt' post. It's less likely than people turning off their computers though.

Oh boy this is gonna be great! I hope the spammers participate!

This May will be the 6th year I have been with the [H]. I have never taken a vaction and the only times I have been away from work / without a PC in that time were:

Hospital stays (one was a week)
Power / Service Outtages (one was 3 days)

...and it sucked every time. I am not "addicted" to the net but my work / livelyhood are all PC based. I even worked from bed after back surgery twice ;) If I do go on vacation in the future...I will take a laptop.

We should have a National "NO TOOL DAY" no one can use any tools for a day and see if it imacts our lives  Heh...no tool day.

If you can't spend time away from a computer without "events" like this, than just kill yourself.

Al Gore called, he wants his internet back. :D

Steve, your excuse is hospital stays and power outages!?! PSSHHH you need to be [H]arder than that! Where is that generator with sattelite/wifi access?!?
