Hey guys,

I have an asus a8n-sli delux, athlon x2 4200+ and 1gb dual channel ram. The computer has been running rock solid for the last few days now. When I turned it on, windows xp would not start up completely and went into an endless loop of restarting. I reinstalled xp, it worked for a little bit and started doing this again out of the blue. The hdd was really old so I figured maybe files were getting corrupted. I upgraded to a seagate 300gb sata/300 hdd. Now, the computer boots fine and all - but when windows xp loads for the first time after the dos-type setup, it just shuts down immediately - complete power off. I can't install windows xp. I know my disc isn't messed up or anything and I can't figure out what would cause this.

Does anybody have any ideas? :(

Have you done any overclocking?

What's your power supply? brand? model?

I wonder about the PSU because you state that it boots fine then when it goes to restart windows for the first time it restarts. Perhaps the psu is fine with the load at a cold boot, but it can't handle it from a warm boot.
