Shure/Etymotics buying recommendations?

I'm not too well versed in the product lines of these two companies, and they have been very difficult to audition, for obvious reasons.

So, I'm looking for recommendations. I'm looking for the best set under $100, give or take. What subjective comments do you have with regards to Shure vs. Etymotics? I will also consider other manufacturers of earphones of this type.

Right now, the Shure E2Cs at $60 (buy.com) seem like the best use of my money. I appreciate your comments.
 
I have a little bit of experience with Etymotic and Shure, but it's been a long time since I've auditioned them. It depends on your tastes and your level of fanatacism with audio fidelity of course, but for me the Etymotic ER6 and Shure E2c's left me mostly unimpressed. I did like the Ety ER4's and the Shure E3's, though. The difference in pricing their shows pretty strongly in the clarity and quality of sound you receive. You should probably go to a dedicated heaphone site like this one if you want some real recommendations.

If your budget were stretched a bit higher ($900), you could always spring for a pair of these custom-fit wonders:
